Of course, this opens up wonderful opportunities about discussing the semantics of the word 'better', whether numbers lie or not, whether Ainge has a master-plan to trade one or both mid-season to help our tanking and the other usual classic questions that pop-up in this wonderful forum.

Kelly.  I still think there is more growth to be had for his game.

I think what we're seeing from Sully now is close to what his ceiling is.

That being said, I'd have no problem moving either of them in a package deal.

Unless Sully really surprises us with his 3pt%, Kelly looks to be better overall. Very good ball handling and passing for his height, and he is shooting very good too.
Also, judging from what I saw so far, his confidence seems to have gone up, which is a very good thing too.

Sully may end up with the flashier stats, KO will be more indispensable and be part of the core going forward.

equally good.  I think KO will be the better passer and ball handler while I think Sully will be the better rebounder and defender.  I think both will be solid on offense with Sully being a little more low-post oriented than KO.

I like them both in a potential PF platoon provided we can get a solid player at center with a decent backup.

Let's hope next year we get a top-5 draft pick. This could get us the long expected talented center and then lots of good things could start happening.

I don't think it's worth mentioning  KO as the better passer, Sully is a very good passer himself and any apparent "advantage" KO has on that regard is quite marginal.

Sully is by far the better defender and rebounder. He's better in the low post, he's better in the mid-range. KO seems to have the better touch from the outside, but I wouldn't sleep on Sully and his 3-point shooting.

KO is better running the floor and does have better handles. The only significant advantage he might have on Sully is if he starts shooting lights out and Sully regresses on that regard, but until then Sully has way more to offer. Also a better playmaker due to his handles.

All that said, Sully to me is better at generating his own offense when needed, despite KO's handles.

I go Olynyk, but mainly because I think he'll be a lot more durable  than Sully.  It's very very subjective but it seems like he works harder on his fitness and game too.

Plus I think management really wants a 4 that can stretch the floor, hence Sully hucking so many 3s last year despite a Josh Smithesque percentage.  So far Olynyk shoots better from 3, 2, and 1, which helps his case a lot too.

Can we combine the two and have a Kully?  ;D

I'd take Kelly. Sully's rebounding mentality is miles ahead but I think Kelly is the far better skilled player. Can hit the three much more consistent, better handles (for a big man), seems to be the better passer.

I think we can do more things with Olynyk than with Sullinger. I wont complain if we can just have one and get either. I just prefer Kelly over Sully just by potential.

I vote both of them
it's very nice to see the player with bright future play
Kelly/Sully/Smart/Young (even Turner)
very enjoyable

just hope Rondo/Green's return won't ruin the chemistry

this post got me thinking, though a bit off tangent. if the celtics were to keep the line up list above, in 3 years would a starting line up of those players be able to get into the play offs?

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I voted Olynyk because he would seem to fit better on a good team with star players around him. Ideally you'd want someone better than Sully doing what he does if you hope to be a contending team. I know my reasoning might sound a little strange but sometimes you just want a solid role player instead of a good-but-not great guy. That doesn't mean Sully can't be a role player but Olynyk's skills (better long-range shooting, unselfish attitude, passing ability) just seem better suited for the role.

Also, I feel like undersized PFs like Sullinger who rebound and shoot a little are easier to find in the draft or around the league than stretch 4s with Olynyk's size/shoot/pass combination. That makes Sullinger a little less valuable as an asset in my eyes.

So by your estimation, Sully is selfish, lacks passing ability, and merely shoots a little... I don't know what player you've been watching.

I find your analysis of Sullinger severely lacking.

I agree. I think Olynyk can offer more to a contending team. He reminds of David Lee a bit, in that for a big guy, he can score from outside the perimeter and give you some offense.

Sully is a decent power forward, but a bit undersized and hence would probably get outrebounded and outmuscled by taller power forwards
