You mean like 20 mil a year?

Chris Paul makes 18.6 mil, right?  He averaged 19 points, 11 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 47%/37%/86%

Something like that is probably worth max.

Rondo averaged 12 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 40%/29%/63%  ... Pretty good, but probably not worth the max.

Yeah but Chris Paul also gets to lob the ball in to Blake Griffin 10 times a night. Rondo has never in his career had that kind of big man to dish the ball to (KG was never as pure a scorer) If Rondo were on the Clippers this year I could see him getting 15 assists a night.

Rondo can get stats. I am more concerned with how he moves defensively. You can't stat that very well. But to stick with the OP's question, i would feel good about:

14 ppg 4.5 rpg 10 apg 1.5 spg 3 TO, with 48% FG and 65% FT, including at least 3.5 free throw attempts per game

In other words, if Rondo returns to 2009-2012 form, he is worth the max range - say 17.5 per year.

I think the best Rondo could realistically do is 15/11/6 and 3 steals, but if did that (which is really good) while having good shooting percentages and being voted into the All-Star game as a starter by fans I'd be pretty happy.  The later part about the voting is important, because I think if he gets that we are a lot more likely to draw a big name to the city sooner.

Either of these are my dream scenarios:

Both start with him getting a really nice box score split like that above, then at the All-Star Break, we either:

A.) Trade Wallace + Picks + Sully for a big name player like Kevin Love or Marc Gasol right at the trade deadline

or

B.) Have Rondo cut his minutes way back and work on developing the young guys, then just miss the playoffs by a game and win the lottery, then add the #1 pick and a big name player through a Wallace trade in the summer (while not giving up any of our Nets picks)

Also, if we get some kind of Godfather offer like McLemore and 3 unprotected Kings first rounders and the rights to swap picks in another year I'm okay with it, but only if the other team is really overpaying.  I would like to keep Rondo around, just because he can be a legit starter on a championship team even now and he is so fun to watch.

For me, I would take a slight decrease in assists (8-10), rebounds can stay where they are,  but I would have to see scoring in the 16-20 pt range, with a marked increase in free throw attempts (to show he is putting pressure on the D) and improved percentage on all three shooting stats (FG%, FT%, and 3PT%).

An honestly, I would also like to see better media savvy.

Really??  Vomit.  If hes putting up 17/12/6 and we're making the playoffs, I could care less about how much of a **** he acts like during interviews.  Winning games matters, ESPY awards dont.

I'm a Rondo fan, and to offer him the max contract I just need to see that he hasn't had a major drop-off since the injury, and I'd need to see him play > 70 games.

I would not give him max, probably go in the 13 to 16 range, that's it.

If the Celtics make the playoffs because of his play (so, not just because the team improved; he needs to carry them or show that he could have carried them if they had needed it), then he'd be worth it

This. Scoring shouldn't be a problem but I'd rather see the assists get back up to 12-13 and steals above 2 while keeping TO's down.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

It doesn't matter what he does... He isn't a magnet to bring others to Bean Town...
At nearly 30.... and the majority of our young core aged between 20-23...
He is irrelevant when I consider our window of opportunity is 3-4 years from now.
But in saying that I hope he puts up good enough numbers to warrant some team to pay OVERS!! Like our mates the Brooklyn Nets....lol

Nothing.

We're not running a binky program for obsessed fans.

We're trying to win championships and Rondo doesn't figure in that equation.

Overpaying him with a max deal is the height of insanity.

20 pts,  8 ast.  He needs to score.   Nba championships are never won with a player with high individual assists.   Team assists are more important.

Chris Paul will make $20 MM+ next year and 24 MM+ in the last year of his deal.

For Rondo to make that much he would need to at least have numbers similar to Paul. More importantly he would need to show the the team that he can lead them to victories.

I remember how Rondo played in the 2012 playoffs and I think if he consistently played like that he might be worth the max. 17.3/12/6.7/2.5 steals while shooting 49% from the field.

TP to the OP for asking such a good question.

IF he wants max he needs:

20+/10apg+/6rpg     48% FG 70+%FT

AND shows leadership enough to lead this team to the playoffs (which idk I even want)

The Max isn't going to happen no matter what he accomplishes next year.  He can't get the same number of assists he has had in the past because we don't have the same quality shooters.

Danny is stocking up on draft picks.  Thus, he is looking for a youth movement.  Rajon will be 29 years old at the end of the season.  Plus, the ACL injury would make any GM leery of offering that sort of deal.

I think the most he'll be offered is $10 million/year for 3 years.  There may be teams willing to offer more, but not for 4 years.

Rondo can't shoot or defend.
Let someone else overpay him.
