I think the Cavs would be foolish not to trade Wiggins for Love, if Love is willing to sign an extension.  The odds of Wiggins, as talented as he is, reaching Love status, is still unlikely.  Sure Wiggins might become an allstar level elite like Love, and might even end up better, but my experience in watching the NBA says there's a higher probability that Wiggins won't ever reach that level.  With Lebron at 29, and Irving signed, I think Wiggins for Love is exactly what the Cavs should do.  Love is 25, and an established elite player in the NBA.   If they could get Dieng to, they should drive Wiggins to the airport.

If this is true then what's taking so long??  If Wiggins was the hold up and he's on the table now then why hasn't the trade happened yet?

Wolves would be foolish not to take Wiggins.  If you can get Wiggins for a sitting duck Love, you do it immediately.

They still need to match contracts, though... Wiggins alone is enough.  Wiggins + additional assets is overkill.  I wonder if they'd get another team involved to help match salary and get some picks back for their extra assets.

The Cavs probably want more than Love if they have to include Wiggins plus multiple other decent pieces.

Right... Dion, Anthony Bennett and Thompson are all assets in their own right... and if you have to give up those guys just to match salary, that's a bit overkill if you're also giving up Bennett.

I could see them pulling in a 3rd team.  I'd be happy to take Anthony Bennett off their hands... we could send expiring contracts to the WOlves to match salary and give up a pick to the Cavs for Bennett.

Not sure how they can match salary without giving up those guys or Anderson V (who apparently they are unwilling to move)

This makes sense.  I just figured the way the press was talking that they had a deal in place that included Wiggins already and it was just up to the Cavs if they wanted to make it.

The Cavs can't trade Wiggins for Love straight up.  They have to add other salary and they don't have bad or non guaranteed contracts like they Celtics do.  The trade would have to be Wiggins plus an asset or two... such as Varejao or two of Waiters, Bennett, or Thompson.  It might not be worth it for the Cavs.  Honestly, I think that gives them a good excuse to hang onto Wiggins who could be great.  They should at least wait until the trade deadline and have a better idea of what they are giving up.

This, by the way, is Minnesota's chance to swindle Cleveland for everything they can get.

I thought this wasn't allowed if said players under contract

Ahhh, gotta love the NBA frat party.

Please take me back to the 80's when the NBA was legit.

I'm pretty sure players can talk, even though it is/should be frowned upon if done in public like this when the other player is under contract. Management definitely can't do so, though. Granted, its LeBron...if it was an issue, the league isn't going to raise a stink about it w/ him. I mean, they didn't do anything re: Riley clearly crossing the lines to recruit him back when he was still w/ the Cavs.

Can he do that? I know players can talk. But I remember Rondo not saying anything about when Love came to visit. Didn't say anything about telling Love he would be fun to play with. He always added an other player, and said like them.

It would be funny if Silver stopped the deal because of that. And Lebron would be crying, "But, but, David use to let me do these things".
