Wow.  I don't mind overpaying a bit for the short run since we aren't going after any marquee guys this year, but 4 years at that rate?  Seems way too steep.

actually, as i see it, the over pay is for the first 2 years. by the end of AB's contract $8,000,000/year for an above average guard with outstanding defense may be considered a bargain.

this does seem like an overpay, but not outrageously so. most folks here agree that $6,000,000/year is fair, meaning it is only (!) a $2,000,000 over pay. in and of itself, that doesn't prevent the celtics from doing anything dramatic.

the problem is when a team begins to accumulate these types of overpays. then their over all financial flexibility is seriously damaged.

over all, this is more than i thought AB would get, but nothing to lose sleep over.

This is exactly it I think.  People see free agents (aging ones at that) coattail in Miami and stuff for cheap and think that's how this all works I guess.  As if no good team has ever been constructed that's not huge star salaries and scraps around them.

As if every team has that option too, especially one that was one of the worst in the league last year.

Jodie Meeks just got nearly 7M a year for 3 years.  Lance is going to get 10+ a year for 4-5 years.

I firmly believe Avery Bradley is towards the top end of this list in terms of value (really only behind Teague and maybe Anderson and maybe Asik).  Seems like he got exactly what he deserves to me.

Pretty much.  Unless you have zero weaknesses in your game, you deserved to be marginalized in your contract or involved in a trade.

Luol Deng is one of the better all around players at his position - he should get around $12-13m easily. Still doesn't make Jeff Green's worth it.

Luol is a better player than Green, the type of team matters to his deal. If I'm a team close to being a serious contender and my only glaring need is the SF position I see no problem giving him a 3-4 year deal at 10-12 million per year. If I'm a team in the Celtic's position I wouldn't offer him much.

Eh...not enamored with the $ but its not blatantly ridiculous either.  Probably reflects close to market value. 

Am pleased to see that they've established quite the guard rotation going into '14-15.  Now they can worry about more pressing needs like C and figuring out what the heck to do with the SF position.   My guess is short-term bandaids for now.

If Avery can become a good or great play maker for his position, and bump up his assist total to 4 or 5 then the deal is fair. He just has to be able to do more than guard point guards and shoot the corner three. His height will always limit him.
