One alternative: we're acquiring assets and will move existing assets elsewhere. Maybe Smart and Young were here for only a cameo appearance.

yeah maybe.

But if Love was still the target... why exactly would Isaiah Thomas be the first free agent we called?   Seriously.

Wouldn't we be lining up veteran defensive centers (Gortat, for instance)?   Why a PG of all things?

I wonder if we could be looking into a Rondo for Cousins swap

Third guard and scoring. Big need.  (Gortat's not a defensive center.)

Maybe Ainge really doesn't like Ben McLemore but is interested in doing a Thomas sign-and-trade plus Derrick Williams and the rights to Stauskus  for Gerald Wallace and the rights to Smart.

I rather keep Smart and trade Young.

That's a double negative, so you're saying that Smart is going somewhere....

To the Summer League, no doubt.

It's rumored that he's gotten interest from Detroit, Miami, Dallas, Phoenix, and the Lakers, with the Pistons said to be offering around $24m for three years.

It'd be a total Ainge move for there to be rumors about Ben McLemore and Rajon Rondo only for a Boston-Sacramento trade to involve neither player.

^agreed.

sidenote:

Can we pour one out for Brandon Knight's NBA career?

He was a top 5 pick, if I recall correctly. Maybe 7. Before Walker, after Irving (obviously), Before Drummond, after Thompson.

I don't pretend that this is more than a Wild-A-Guess on my part. An alternate ending for a GM who's known to be creative and think outside the box. Our picks have gotten a lot of praise outside the confines of CBlog and may be more valuable now than when they were potential draft choices.

Long shot, but T-Wolves aren't likely to go into next season with Love.
