Because Randle, Smart, Vonleh, and Gordon all have All Star potential, with borderline-All Star being more likely than low impact starter.

Getting two All Stars or borderline All Stars on cheap rookie contracts that free up cap space for Established stars, is better than a mere top 10 ish player who doesn't sniff an MVP award.

Look at Durant and Westbrook and Ibaka. More star power than the Spurs, but they didn't have the depth of the Spurs.

Look at the NFL teams that gamble on quarterback prospects that only have a 50/50 chance of being great. Those are usually below average teams. One miss like that, especially if you trade away half the team, can set a franchise back 5 years, or even get it stuck in a long-term rut.

Parker has better college numbers than Pierce...Im not saying he will become Pierce but if Danny thinks he will I would pull the trigger on that

Parker is far more of a sure thing and a better scorer than Wiggins.  Wiggins is all about potential.

Not gonna lie, he kinda looks good in that jersey. But that's so surreal.

Ginobli, Diaw, Splitter, and Danny Green are just role players. They just won another championship.

This concept that all role players are basically the same, and you can cram any 3 superstars together and any cast of role players, and they will win a championship, is ill-conceived and misguided.

Even the 08 Celtics won as much because of huge contributions from their excellent role players, as they did from the Big 3.

The only reason to give up so much for Wiggins would be if you were pretty sure he was going to be at that MVP level Like Lebron, Kobe, MJ.

Ginobili is not a role player. And it sure becomes easy to be the Spurs when you have TP and TD as well. It is the idea that building around or prioritizing role players that's misguided. If you think the 08 Celtics won because of House and Posey, you're terribly mistaken. Not discounting the importance of role players, but it's harder to find Shaq than to find Robert Horry. Harder to find KG or Pierce than to find James Posey or Eddie. Harder to find Tim Duncan than to find Danny Green.

I agree that it's hard to win a championship, but the fact that you're pointing out KD, Westbrook, Ibaka and the Thunder or Lebron, Wade, Bosh and the Heat (basically contenders who didn't win it all last year) as your counter examples, well in my mind that is a far better fate than say, a team like the Timberwolves who have 1 star and many good role players like Brewer and Pekovic or specialists like Martin.

For a team like the C's with no real identity or core yet, I think we should prioritize finding that over keeping our beloved role players.

Unless of course, Green (or his late 1st round equivalent value) and Bradley (or his two 2nd round picks value) is going to be part of that foundation.
