I'm willing to take the risk.

Greg Oden????

The difference will be that the Celtics would probably draft him at number six as opposed to number one.

Yeah, but why waste a pick on a guy who may not ever see the floor. From what I've read this isn't a thing that will go away. It's also, again from what I've heard on shows and read the same thing that Yao Ming had and ended his career. At least he got some NBA games in, Embiid hasn't even made it threw work outs.

He's not even going to NY, which means he's really falling. If he's there at 17, you pull the trigger. I'd rather take a guy like Gordan, or Smart at 6th if we are keeping the pick. They'll be more valuable even at bust than a guy who barely ever sees the floor.

The oozing potential! I'm willing take a risk at six, that's all I'm saying

the way i see it now

1. Cavs - Wiggins
2. Bucks - Parker
3. 76ers - Exum
4. Magic - Smart
5. Jazz - Embiid/Gordon/Randle/Vonleh
6. Celtics - the leftover

If this is the case i can see the celtics having a super good chance to get embiid. Just flip the 17 and 23rd picks.

Apparently, Milwaukee really likes Exum, and because they already have their 3 of the future in Giannis Antetokounmpo, Parker might be available for Philly, even though they prefer Wiggins, so I still see a draft day trade between the cavs and sixers as a strong probability.  That means for something like this -

1. Cavs - Wiggins (traded to sixers for numbers 3, and perhaps 10.  You never know what the asking price will be, but I think it's safe to say that it will be relatively high, even though the cavs will 'somehow' receive the number 1 pick next year, depending on what happens with Lebron.)
2. Bucks - Exum
3. 76ers - Parker (traded to Cavs)
4. Magic - Embiid (there's no way the Magic pass up on getting a potentially franchise player in the big man.  If they do pass on him, they'll take Smart.).
5. Jazz - Embiid (same as above, which leaves the Celtics in the familiar situation of 'so close, and yet, so far.')
6. Celtics - I'm not sure what happens then.  Left to choose between Vonleh, Randle, and Gordon sounds like picking your poison, but I'll go with Randle.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, guys.  We're not going to get him, unless Red can somehow work his magic up there, haha.

I don't know about the Magic, I'm not sure Utah takes a risk with Embiid when they have Kanter and Favors there. There's still a strong chance he falls to the Celtics.

Throw in Rondo and the 6th pick to Orlando for their pick - if Embiid is available.

If Embiid is not available, trade Rondo to draft Tavares (or McGary).

But get a genuine center!!!!  There are only a couple centers available out of the total 60 draft picks!

Everyone wants truth on his side, not everyone wants to be on the side of truth.

I think the real argument in favor of Embiid is that all these draft picks have developmental risk  -- meaning they might not turn out to be very good NBA players from a skill level.  The further you get into the draft, either the greater that risk, the lesser that payoff of maximum potential, or some combination of both.  So yes, Embiid can very much provide zero value.  That is without question.  But what if, for example, Doug McDermott's game just doesn't translate to the NBA?  Maybe he'll provide you bench minutes for his rookie deal, but is that enough value at the low end to pass on Embiid's top end?  We know from experience that some players in the top 10 will fail for reasons less due to injury -- eventually the risk becomes worth it.  That line, in my opinion, is somewhere between about 5 and 9 in this draft.  If Embiid is there at 6, it will depend not only on the risk of Embiid, but how big of a risk Ainge thinks the alternatives are.

I don't know if you're serious.  I assume you're not.  If you are.........

Barring any trades (Cavs & Sixers, Rondo trade if Love isn't acquired, Lakers looking to trade pick, ditto for Sacramento, etc.) this is how I see it. Magic loves Smart. Jazz have Favors at the 5 and Embiid has too many injury risks to take over Vonleh.

Yeah I agree, barring a Kevin Love trade. There's an ultra high chance that the Celtics can land Embiid.

True, but none excite me more than Embiid, assuming he can be healthy. Granted, a big if, based on the latest reports about the broken bone.

And this report would indicate that..

After polling teams, currently Embiid's range appears to be 3-6 right now. Could change when teams see medicals.

I don't get the viewpoint that this is possibly good news for the C's. At this point I want all the news to be great, about how these guys are confirming that this will be a terrific draft.

If Embiid has injury concerns and falls to us it's for a reason. His value is down and so is the overall value of the #6 pick.

We sacrificed a lot to have a good lottery slot, and any bad news about the current top 10 crop seems to only reduce our chances of getting a great player - or trading for one.

Maybe, but Embiid has greater potential than any of the other possible prospects the Celtics can draft at six.

See Sullinger and Bradley (albeit Bradley's was less significant). Ainge isn't afraid to take a chances, especially when it means getting great value. Recent drafts have shown his strategy has paid off.

Ford has Embiid sliding to ORL at 4.  Simmons says Tellum wants Embiid to go to Celts or Lakers if he is not #1 pick.
