I have yet to see a clear alternative from anyone (Sans Love) that will get BOS back to playoffs AND contention.
I reject the notion that acquiring Kevin Love will get us back to title contention.
But he is a piece. A BIG piece. I've stated that before on here.
You should know that. I've read a lot of your posts, so don't feign ignorance.
All it takes is two to get the third one here.
Ok. But who is the third. And please don't say asik.
It's an NBA All star or top 20 player.
Remember guys like Bosh and Aldridge are free agents too in 2015-16
The main aim is to plant the first seed of bringing Kevin Love and locking him in for 5 years.
Sometimes you can't put a big 3 together over night, and Danny might not feel that the 3rd star is available right now...but he may be available in 2015-16, with Rondo and Love in the 2nd year of their new deals and looking very attractive as a free agency destination.
Danny won't rush into this, he'll take 2 more years if he has to.
He's very fussy when talking about what it really takes to have championship caliber players. He's going to get a top 20 player and a defensive big man.
Who are some top 20 players coming into free agency?
This year the only ones I'd even look at are Carmelo, Lance Stephenson or Luol Deng- but then thinking about money and longevity I'd probably go with the curve ball and take Lance.
Lance should have been an All Star, and probably will be an All Star for the next 4-5 years considering his age. He's also still curving upward and improving each season. Now he needs more shots to get up to the 20 point NBA club.
Rondo (top 20 player), Love (top 10 player), Lance (improves into undisputed top 10 player) with Asik or Larry Sanders as rim protectors is potentially a championship team...the potential lies in Rondo's recovery and Lance Stephenson's improvement continuing.
Then obviously the 2015-16 free agent class might make more sense with Bosh, Aldridge, Lebron...lol.
Danny is probably having a long hard think about if a team constructed of 3 top 20 players and an important player who's just not quite of an All Star level. (ie. Jeff Green) and a top 5 defensive big man can take down a team like the Clippers in 2017, or whatever team Lebron is on.
We'd have to roll out a team that's built perfectly with a single top 10 player and multiple top 25 players like the Detroit Pistons in the mid 2000's.
