The Bulls can trade Butler, Gibson, Boozer's expiring contract, the rights to Nikola Mirotic, the No. 16 and No. 19 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and a Top 10 protected pick from the Sacramento Kings between 2015-2017.
There's not a single player/pick in that group that helps you build towards a championship team. Only role players. Whereas the C's can offer the #6 and some Brooklyn picks, which could definitely be top lotto picks. Then Sully/KO vs. Butler/Gibson, etc.. come in to play. But, the C's have much better assets when it comes to possible franchise changing players. Hands down.
I think the C's definitely have better assets total to win a bidding war. The question is, how much are we willing to give up?
More assets. More picks. Not necessarily any franchise-changing picks, but we have quite a few.
Seems like there is some uncertainty whether either one of Sully or KO could ever be a top-3 option these days, when at one time, both were considered to project as at least 3rd options on a potent team. That perception could be make or break.
Similar with the value of the #6. Is there a player there that can be a key piece in a couple of years?
I'm high on both Sully and KO, and in particular both growing and working together on a nice two-man game, plus being able to catch and finish in multiple sets.
And if I could bring in both Sully and KO, plus #6, with cap relief, then either I'm getting three possible franchise pieces and hoping one really pans out, or I'm getting role players.
But if I have both players and the lotto pick, as far as I'm concerned, having watched them closely and with each other, I'm not in a hurry to give up much more than that.
In sending off Al Jefferson, prospect GGreen, and a good pick, we essentially sent off 3 good chances (and if not for Jefferson's injury and Minny's terrible drafting...). That should seal the current deal.
