Close for Wayne Rooney. Dangerously close.

Italy has to hold on. Even with the lead, England is getting their chances.

Wow, Rooney....

Not like him to miss that.

Italy still looking quite weak in the back, seem disorganized.

Oh god, De Rossi is a fabulous player. His passing ability is remarkable for a player who does so much defensive work and is so intelligent tactically as two-way player.

Yeah, the Italian's really have a brilliant attack.  The passing and finishing is top notch.  But the defense just seems so weak.

Catenaccio this is not.

Selfish play by Candreva. Had a man wide and lots of players in the box. Wasted a good position.

Raheem Sterling is having his way against this Italian squad.

I'll take the 3 points, but Italy must tighten up the back line if the have any aspirations of a long run in this cup.

And Andrea Pirlo, I can't even fathom the day he hangs up his cleats.  So masterful.

I was impressed with England.

The movement of their front three with Sturridge, Welbeck and Rooney was better than it has been for a long time against a quality opponent. Sterling was very good behind them. Menacing. Leighton Baines was threatening down the left as well.

I think they still need a little more midfield playing from the spot Jordan Henderson took today. Gerrard moved the ball well but I think they needed another quality passer alongside him to balance out their attacking play.

A lot to like in that performance. Not the result but the performance was pretty good.

I cant wait to see Japan!

As a Filipino, which national team has not (and may never be) qualified for the WC, I'm rooting heavily on the Asian squads (except Iran, although I got nothing against them).

I think talent wise they can compete, the size disadvantage worries me.

Back to back heading goals from Ivory Coast.

That organized Japan defense has lost all momentum.

I think England needs to drop one of the 4 forwards (Sterling-Rooney-Sturridge-Welbeck) and add a read midfielder. I`d bench Wellbeck fow Willshire.

And Rooney must step up. I`ve read that Messi and Rooney have played 16 WV games and have scored in total ONE goal! That can`t be acceptable!

Well, if it makes you feel better, the Japanese will probably tear Greece a new one. Greece not only has a moron for a coach, they possess probably the slowest and most technically inept midfield at the tournament I fully expect the Japanese to run circles around them.
