Flip just hired himself as head coach of the Timberwolves:

http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2014/6/5/5782576/flip-saunders-head-coaching-job-timberwolves

Hmm.... not sure Flip is going to want to trade away his best player (at least not for 'developmental' pieces).  Coaches like to win.

This may complicate things.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

That fact that he is going to coach himself is a strong indication that Love is gone. No coach wants to take a job for a team that just lost it's best player and has no clear path for their future. He will coach until he can restructure the team around Rubio.

"According to ESPN.com's Jackie MacMullan, if Rondo is not going to have his contract extended with the Boston Celtics, then Love has no interest in heading to the east coast. Love is looking to play for a title contender. Without Rondo, the Celtics will not be there in the new few years no matter who they get in a trade for the point guard.

Danny Ainge continues to play coy with the future of Rondo. One minute the president of operations is saying that everyone is available for the right price and the next minute he is saying how Rondo is the future of the Celtics franchise for many years to come. A Love-Rondo combination would keep the Celtics in the Eastern Conference title hunt for plenty of years.

The Celtics could try and sign both players come 2015, or they could make a trade now for the forward. However, MacMullan continues her report saying that Boston might not have the assets that interest the Timberwolves. The Celtics could offer the sixth or 17th overall pick which is not that impressive and then they have run of the mill players like Jared Sullinger and Jeff Green that are not worth the return price for Love. Considering teams like the Phoenix Suns can offer up Eric Bledsoe while the Bulls can give Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson, the Celtics will find themselves being out matched for a deal.

The issue is that Love has already made his intentions with the Minnesota Timberwolves known. He intends to fully test the free agent market, giving no indication that a return to Minnesota is in the cards. This means his future is out of his hands. Love might want to go play with Rondo, but if the Charlotte Bobcats come in with a better trade offer, Love will be sent packing whether he likes it or not. "

Wow, what a third rate, reckless speculation/OP-ed, click-bait article. They don't even link back to Jackie Mac's article from yesterday that we've all already read. I feel crappy just clicking on the link.

The big problem, of course, is that its an unsourced citation -- I believe its from this article, but I don't have insider:

Does she explicitly say contract extension?

What do the Hornets have to offer that the Celtics can't match?

Id take it a step further; they couldn't get any of their top choices for coach, and Glen Taylor isn't excited about paying a top-notch coach to man a sinking ship. He's giving Saunders a chance here maybe, to prove he can win with the roster he's assembled, so maybe no movement on draft day. But don't mistake this for a vote of confidence, it's not.

Yeah, it certainly wasn't in that original piece the OP references.

Remember, there's still no guarantee Rondo is sticking around for any of this. He does not want to languish with a young rebuilding team in the prime of his career. Can't say I blame him. He wants to play in a big market, which limits trade destinations for Boston, and he wants a max deal. He has not given the Celtics any guarantees he's in for the long haul.

That's the closest thing I can find, and it's a heck of a stretch.

It'll be interesting to see if Kevin Love turns up in another prospective city this weekend.

It would make me angry!...lol

Look, I would LOVE to see Love in Beantown.

However, there are 29 other teams in the league we are competing against looking to improve.

If we get Love, AWESOME!!

If not, then we shouldn't despair and DA should just swing for the fences to land another all-star.

There's got to be an alternative move out there, in case the Love thing doesn't pan out.

And, with or without Love, why wouldn't Melo still be a possibility?

He reportedly likes Rondo and if the two of them team up, you know there will be a 3rd star to join the team (whether it's this summer, by the trade deadline or summer of 2015.)

We have so many assets to offer New York in a Melo S/T deal.

Next summer, if you're Lamarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love or Marc Gasol and are a free agent, doesn't Boston look like an appealing destination with Rondo and Melo? I would think so

I tell ya i'm still kind of hesitant on buying into Love "wanting" to come here.

He's a cali guy(lakers fan?). who's to say he doesn't have this devious sinister plan to try to get Minn. to work a trade to Boston, getting us to give up as much as possible, plays a yr. here. only to sign with the Lakers after this yr., which was his plan all along.

Its only appealing if we have the money to pay them.  And even then, their current teams can offer more.  So, in a nutshell, don't get ur hopes up.

Yeah, but it'll probably serve us right, wouldn't it? Some fans have gotten cocky, people are acting as if its in the bag and then Melo will magically follow suit. I'd love to have Love (pun sort of intended) but I'd like to reserve the victory cigar until a deal is actually done and approved by the league office.

I'd be a little concerned and creeped out if Kevin Love has this type of time on his hands to plan something like this. Especially since such a plan would cost him $26m.
