As a kid did you ever try to convince your parents to do Christmas early, or maybe give Hanukah a try? That's what this is like. We all know it's coming. Why are we putting this off?

If you're Love what else do you have to do or say to convince Flip you're done? Get a billboard? Hire a Moses impersonator to be like "Let my Kevin go!"

Cmooonn. Do this already.

Saunders may just look at how people went from thinking that there is no way Portland can keep Lamarcus Aldridge to people doubting they can get him to leave and think that all it takes is fielding a playoff team to get Love to change his mind.

four pages on a realGM article?   now that's just sad, fellas.

I agree.  There should be at least seven pages of mocking realGM.

Here is my proposal again

Draft day (post pick though we pick for them) trade with Minnesota
Kevin Love, Corey Brewer for 2014 lottery pick, Bogans, Green, Sullinger, 2016 Nets

Draft day (post pick though we pick for them) trade with New Orleans
Eric Gordon for Gerald Wallace and #17

Free agency trade with New York
Carmelo Anthony (sign/trade) for 2015 Celtics, 2017 Celtics, 2018 Nets, Bradley (sign/trade), Bass, and salary filler as necessary (Anthony, Faverani, Johnson, Babb, Pressey, etc.)

Free agency trade with Houston
Asik for 2015 Clippers (absorb salary into trade exception)

Re-sign Humphries, Bayless

Sign Pierce to the M.L.E. (for 1 season)

So 2014-15 Cetlic's roster post-moves is

PG - Rondo, Bayless
SG - Gordon, Brewer
SF - Anthony, Pierce
PF - Love, Olynyk
C - Asik, Humphries

I hope this is you, Rick Moranis, from "Honey I shrunk the Kids" as we desperately need your help in shrinking some of the team's contracts into any Love deal.

If we could get Wallace off our hands in some sort of deal for Love then I would be up for it. We simply need him off our books this summer as he ties up too much cap space to go unnoticed.
Oh that team I have up there has a massive payroll, but I think it is a roster Boston would be ok with as that team is a true legit contende,r if not the favorite, and I always got the impression this ownership group would be willing to pay for a real title threat.
so all we have left for assets after this is our 2016 and 2018 picks as well as the Philly first which will most likely transition to second rounder?

would like to hang on to some other assets because I have little faith in Gordon's health, PP's longevity, Brewer's scoring and the overall defense from the 2-4 positions.  I also hate the idea of giving up those unprotected Nets picks.  they're going to stink very shortly and those picks could turn into some great players.  would like something
back from Minny and NY where they have to cough up a provisional first or second rounder if the Nets pick is top 5 or something like that (if that's permitted).

would also bring back Iverson to be the banger backup center and allow for some roster flexibility by giving some time to Hump at PF.  I think KO will be better next year but I don't want to put all my eggs in that basket.  would be good to have someone who can eat minutes behind Love if KO doesn't progress without having to save him to be a PF masquerading as a center.
There are only 10 guys listed, Boston has room for 5 more and has to add at least a few.  Iverson is not in any of my moves, I just didn't list deep bench players.  Also a good chance that NY doesn't have to take on all of the smaller contracts and if they don't have to, they aren't going to (except maybe Faverani who might be a guy they would take a flyer on), so possible that at least one of (if not more) J.Anthony, Babb, Pressey, Faverani, Johnson, etc. will be on the bench.

PP I would sign to a 1 year contract initially.  If he works out and wants to keep playing after that, then fine, but he is clearly a backup SF going forward and would play minutes in that role.  I also suspect that Pierce and Anthony would be on the floor together at times with Anthony getting minutes at the 4.

As for the draft picks, I'm not worried about them.  Boston's picks in this scenario would all be mid to late 20's and while Brooklyn is transitioning I still don't see them not spending money and totally tanking.  They may not be a playoff team all those years, but they would have to hit the lottery for those picks to be more than late lottery in my mind and frankly I would expect all of them to be outside the lottery.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

the article is probably crap. but Love being here for "basketball reasons" were true. weather or not it was to talk to some Celtics people who knows? or he could have been here to make it look like we're in the driver's seat, trying to get other teams to throw more on the table.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I realize this is most likely a garbage article, but I can't help from clicking on this thread over and over again because of the title.

While there isn't really any reason to believe that a deal is done, there may also be no reason to believe that a deal is not drafted.

Kevin Love is never going to be a super-duper star, but his presence along with other signings and trades will make basketball exciting again -  even to the point of title contender if the right moves are made. I just don't think Boston fans [in general] are all that patient and a long re-build has probably never been in the cards from Danny's end.

Due to the fact that it requires a sign-and-trade to get Carmelo, we would be subject to the hard cap, projected to be about $81 million.  Unless everyone aside from Melo who signs a contract with us takes the minimum, we will be over that cap significantly.  We still might not fit even if they did.  I'd say that team costs at least $90 million.  Rondo, Gordon, Brewer, Love, Asik, and Olynyk are at $59 mil themselves.  If Melo gets his $20 million, that's $79 million, with 5 roster spots to go, with each player costing a minimum of $900k. Ownership might be willing to break the bank, but if we get Melo, or any free agent via a sign-and-trade or the full mid-level, the CBA limits how big of a bank they can break.

I know I fit this bill, though I am not sure lack of patience has anything to do with it. It's more about just wanting to see your team be competitive and win games.

Personally, I get ZERO satisfaction out of waiting around for years while rookies hopefully turn into good players and lose games in the process.

I'd like to hope other people feel the same way (including Ainge.)

it's not about being impatient. it's a simple matter of being able to improve your team.

A top 10 player, in his prime, coming to BOS - either in a few weeks or in a year....still hard to believe it.

I'm hopeful, but until Kevin Love is issued his Celtics Jersey number and is doing his press conferences I won't believe it.

BOS's due for some good times.

Ha.  Yeah,  I'm here too reading this fiction.   It's the most fun after such a dreadful season.   I hope it's all true.   I don't even like Melo,  but what the hell, let's do it.   I want to be relevant again next season.    I

I saw the thread on realgm and saw the guy who this is quoting.  He wasn't an insider ... Just some jackwagon celtics thug who is making stuff up. He was bragging about "inside info" that Kevin love was going to be having dinner at a steak restaurant in boston... It was something that had already been reported on twitter.  The rest of the nonsense is just stuff he made up that is reasonably believable

Hardly a surprise from what I've seen there in the past.
There apparently is a guy on that forum who might actually have legitimate sources... or least several of the posters on that forum seem to believe he does.  But there was NOBODY vouching for the guy who claimed it was a "done deal" and that Melo was part of the plan.

This was just some idiot pretending to have sources and coming up with a reasonably plausible rumor.  It's not a hard leap to make that Boston/Minny have come to an agreement and that Melo would be part of it.   But the guy making the claims is just pulling this out of his own butt.

FWIW, the dude who apparently DOES have "sources" chimed in later in that same thread to merely say Love's trip was related to the Celtics and not merely a vacation.  But he certainly didn't say this is a "done deal".   It was actually the opposite... he said something along the lines of "ugh, it's going to be a nerve-wrecking month waiting for the draft".   He more made it sound like it was just an exploratory trip and both sides were a long way from agreeing on anything.   Boston still has plenty of competition for Love... don't count any chickens yet.

Barkley had some really interesting things to say about leaving Philly a couple weeks ago on one of the ESPN call in shows.

I'm waiting for the user here on Celticsblog known by "coach" who scooped Woj on the Crawford-Brooks trade in January.  If he says Love's a done deal, then it's done.
