I saw the thread on realgm and saw the guy who this is quoting.  He wasn't an insider ... Just some jackwagon celtics thug who is making stuff up. He was bragging about "inside info" that Kevin love was going to be having dinner at a steak restaurant in boston... It was something that had already been reported on twitter.  The rest of the nonsense is just stuff he made up that is reasonably believable

Agreed, seems like there are two sources being quoted (though the report here makes it seem like they're attributing it all to the one)... and certainly the portion of the DONE DEAL is by the guy you're describing.

The other portion, seems to be from another guy who seems like he's an insider and seems like people have relied on him before.

But I don't frequent RealGM much, but that's my impression. That the DEAL IS DONE part has no truth to it at this point.

What bs. If this were true some major fines will be given

Melo and love would help but we would be a horrible defensive team. Will bring pain into my eyes

Can someone who's a cap expert confirm that this is even possible? We have the trade exception, so that helps things from a salary-matching perspective, correct?

Also, some clarification regarding this part is needed:
Quote
Love opting in on his final year allows the Cs to sign Melo to a long-term deal first. Then work on a team-friendly deal with Rondo and then take care of Kevin."

What does it matter that Kevin opts into the final year (2015-2016) now when it comes to signing Melo? Do they just mean Melo will be assured that Love is here to stay and be more willing to sign?

Depends who the role players are too...you could have an above average defensive team with
Rondo
Avery
Melo
Love
Asik

Melos a good defender when motivated (ie in the playoffs) he won't play defense for the first half of the season, but he'll guard Lebron just as good as anyone...Lebron said Melo guards him as good or better than anyone.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Sounds like nonsense to me. Most "insiders" at RealGM are frauds.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.  Say we give up Sully, filler, the two picks this year and one pick next year for Love.  Ainge could still put two first rounders in 2016, one in 2017 and two again in 2018 for Melo.  He probably won't (and shouldn't) offer that much but Boston can still blow away anyone else in a trade offer for Melo, unless someone offers up a top three pick this year for him.

Mike

But how do you match Melo's salary? Gerald Wallace's contract? Jeff Green? Neither of those pieces are very attractive. Ainge would probably have to add even more picks to get the Knicks to bite.

If Melo goes and they don't get somebody like Griffin or Westbrook in return, the Knicks have no choice but to rebuild from the ground up.  The Knicks have no picks this year, no second round pick next year, no picks in 2016 and no second round pick in 2017.  I don't think Phil is delusional enough to think New York, in its current state, is attractive to free agents.  Given all that, taking on Green and Wallace's deal for a chance to advance the rebuilding process by about 5 years would have to beat just about anything else anyone is going to offer them.

Again, I don't think Ainge will or should offer that much.

Not a Melo fan.  And I guess we would have to leverage the rest of our picks to get him.  And we'd struggle seriously on D.

Not sure this is the best way to go.

I agree on Melo part. He isnt as good player as people talk about. Basketball is defense as well as scoring and the latter is the only part Melo does and by taking 50% of all shots - minimum!

I see two options:

Option 1: We trade some of our young assets (#6 pick, Sullinger and even Olynyk) to acquire Love. We will get hell of a player but still not good enough to make us contenders let alone playoffs bound.

Option 2: Take our pick at #6 and try to acquire another top 8 pick in the draft and use our TPE on Asik to strengthen us.

I pick option one if we can hold on to our #6 pick this year. Otherwise, I pick option 2 as we got such a good opportunity to acquire another top pick (all them picks for starters) and load our roster with young guys who Stevens will love to coach.

Forget Melo and Love. Let's start it from scratch. Nobody is willing to trade players to us on the cheap like Lakers seem to always get.
In Danny Ainge I Trust!

Yea, sure, just like some major fines were given for Lebron, Wade, and Bosh discussing to team up in Miami and then actually doing it. That really worked out very badly for them. Oh, and also, Wade and Bosh are defensive juggernauts as well, aren't they? And so is the Heats starting centers over the last few years. I'm sure the heat fans also feel that it hurts their eyes to watch their team.

Seems like my idea of a couple of months ago may actually happen i.e. Love, Anthony, and Asik to pair with Rondo.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I think someone just copied your idea and is making themselves into an "insider"  ;)

The Love component certainly has some steam to it, and that's the first step I guess.

Hardly a surprise from what I've seen there in the past.

I have to admit, it would be funny to see the Knicks rebuild using the Nets picks. I still can't see us getting both Melo and Love however, but it is worth notin that Melo has been wanting to play with Rondo for the past year or so.

Wade can be lazy on defense in transition, but he was and still can be when he's feeling right a beast defensively. Best shot blocking SG EVER by a wide margin and he's undersized to boot.

Wade lost the athleticism to be that type of a defender years ago.

I love the idea of Love coming to Boston. Melo I just don't like the fit. A big three of Rondo, Melo and Love just seems like an attempt to place the 3 most talent players possible together with no reguards to fitting as a team.

Melo has shown in NY to be best suited to playing a small ball 4 in a dirk type role. The knicks have tried at times to embrace this but it hasn't worked out. I think he and love create redundancy on offense that will ultimately work by just over running logic with talent. The other side of the ball is where the problems will lie. While both are A++ super stars on offense they are mediocre defenders (melo possibly below average). If the Cs lead by Rondo, Melo, and Love where in these eastern conference finals against Indy or Miami how would they fair vs West and George or Lebron and (insert PF)? If they made the finals how do they match up with OKC's Durant and Ibaka or Spurs Leonard and Duncan? In terms of defense I actually prefer the much cheaper J Green to Melo.

I would rather see the Cs build a deep TEAM then 3 Stars and a group of vet min fill ins.
