I love the idea of Love coming to Boston. Melo I just don't like the fit. A big three of Rondo, Melo and Love just seems like an attempt to place the 3 most talent players possible together with no reguards to fitting as a team.
Melo has shown in NY to be best suited to playing a small ball 4 in a dirk type role. The knicks have tried at times to embrace this but it hasn't worked out. I think he and love create redundancy on offense that will ultimately work by just over running logic with talent. The other side of the ball is where the problems will lie. While both are A++ super stars on offense they are mediocre defenders (melo possibly below average). If the Cs lead by Rondo, Melo, and Love where in these eastern conference finals against Indy or Miami how would they fair vs West and George or Lebron and (insert PF)? If they made the finals how do they match up with OKC's Durant and Ibaka or Spurs Leonard and Duncan? In terms of defense I actually prefer the much cheaper J Green to Melo.
I would rather see the Cs build a deep TEAM then 3 Stars and a group of vet min fill ins.
I agree with this.
Although I LOVE Melo, and as much I would like to see him as a Celtic and I have even posted my ideas for bringing him in...
I would love much more to bring in a guy like Marc Gasol and have two awesome big guys. We would have fantastic low post presence offensively, mid-range shooting and three-point shooting from those two positions. And Marc is a fantastic defender.
Of course, this is also a stretch, but I think it's much more realistic than Melo. There's not much reason for Memphis to trade him, unless they maybe plan to blow the team up and start from scratch. Also, he's a FA next summer.
Also, from the paycheck standpoint. Let's say we give Love 19 mil, Gasol has 15, and Rondo also 15, or maybe something in between those two, that also gives us a little bit more flexibility to work with for future signings.
