Not that it is some huge issue, but I dunno, I think some people here are underestimating Rondo's popularity with the fans, both in Boston and in the NBA in general.  For example, Rondo is #13 in jersey sales in a year where he didn't play hardly at all due to his knee injury.   Love's jersey sales aren't in the top 15.

Rondo has been to 4 all star games, to Love's 3.  I mean everyone always says that the all star voting is just a glorified popularity contest right?

I don't think it the obvious answer to say that Love's popularity would overnight eclipse Rondo's.  C's fans have a lot of Rondo memories.  They remember the championship season as he was coming into his own, they remember 2009 when RR almost averaged a triple double in the playoffs, they remember Rondo coming back from the dislocated elbow, being one of the leaders in the 2012 push against miami.

One thing to consider is that Rondo has accumulated a reputation with locals of being a bit of a jerk. I have spoken with numerous people over the last few years who ran into Rondo around the area and all of them complained about how much of a jerk he was. I can't say anything about him either way as I never met him, but everyone that has met him seems to hate him.

Not just the locals, but Jason Jackson (Heat sideline reporter) has gone on the LeBatard a few times and called Rondo the biggest jerk he's ever met. Talked about an incident where Rondo walked right through him as he didn't even exist. Said that when he spoke to the Boston media guys they just said "that's how he is".

Kevin Love would be a HUGE star in Boston.
Relative to?

Rondo has been a top 15 player for years.

Kevin Love has been a top 15 player who now has an argument for top 10.

He's barely going to be the best player on the team.  He's definitely not going to be a Tom Brady.
I can't answer this question without getting into a discussion I don't really want to get into right now.  Nor is it worth getting into, because who knows if we'll even land him.

But I stand by it... Kevin Love would be a HUGE star in Boston.  He'd be a significantly more popular figure than Rajon Rondo.

Yup.

Co-signed.

Not a conversation to get into but Love would be a massive star in New England.

Everything you posted just explains why Love wants out of Minnesota.   If he's the star player on a Boston contender... no doubt he'd be a massive star in Boston.  I'd wager 100 TP's to anyone who doubts that his jersey would be Top 5 in sales.  ;)

If he starts working on perfecting the Walker Wiggle, he will easily be top 5 in jersey sales.

yea, I mean, just one example out of the many I heard from people I know who met him, my cousin literally sat next to him at the airport for 2 hours waiting to board a flight, with very few people around. My cousin told Rondo, " hey Rondo! Your the ****ing man! It's great to meet you! Rondo looked up at him, said absolutely nothing, and turned his head. So my cousin figures the guy doesn't want to be disturbed, and he takes out his iPhone to browse the web and leave Rondo alone. Rondo turns to him with an angry look and says "hey, no photos or videos!" My cousin just told him "I'm browsing the ****ing web dude, cool down". That was it. Rondo sat there in silence for the rest of the time. A few kids came by to say hello when they recognized him and he ignored them.

Another story I heard from a few people is that he went to a popular night spot in Lowell, reportedly with a group of guys one of which was Josh Smith. He acted like a jerk to everyone around and mouthed off to enough people that the owner asked him to leave.

I'm curious about how knowledgeable you are about Rondo's popularity in Boston. Have you ever been there?

LarBrd33, don't you know that Rondo is the reason BBallTim wears nothing but Chinese sneakers and drinks Red Bulls like water?

I wonder how many more dozens of these childish posts it's going to take for you to get over the sting of losing some argument that I can't even remember being in.

Honestly, Rondo being a jerk doesn't bother me.  He is there to play basketball, I don't care how he treats the fans as long as it's not over the top and he is loyal to the team.  He seems to be loyal to Boston to a fault with the way his name comes up in trade rumors.  What bothers me is things like Sully, who is probably great to fans, but also gets in a serious domestic dispute with fans.  That is the kind of thing I don't really forgive very easily.

I agree, some of the best players ever were jerks, outside of the game. The biggest jerk I met as far as celebrities go was Bobby Orr, and I still love him as a player, his greatness is undisputed. When we are talking about which players would be more popular and why though, being a jerk to your fans and the media does factor in big time.

Again, my explanation isn't something I really want to get into right now... but there's a reason for why Kevin Love has national ad campaigns with Taco Bell and Pepsi despite playing in the dregs of Minnesota and having never made a playoff appearance.

He'd be a massive... massive star in Boston.

Traded players sometimes get big bumps in jersey sales, other than that I wouldn't count on a big bump in popularity from moving to Boston. Paul Pierce never made the top 5 in jersey sales and I don't think he ever  got voted in as a starter in an all-star.

I heard the same thing about Bird, and Kobe's no peach either. I doubt it's the case that everyone that's met Rondo hates him (especially the way many of the players talk about him) but I don't think that a few people thinking he's a jerk is going to affect his obvious popularity among average fans.

Don't underestimate the effect of being a jerk to the sports media, and the power of social media nowadays.  Bird and Kobe were good with the media, especially Kobe. It does matter when you are talking about popularity. It doesn't matter when you are talking about how good a player is though. I would still take the jerk who can dominate over the nice guy who comes in second on the court anytime.

Yep, constantly. Yet that and his quote about why he shoots so many 3s are what's left of his legacy.
