Those Wages guys really love their pet stat, don't they.

As pet stats go, it's much better than relying on something idiotic like PER.

Are you saying that Hollinger was fiscally incentivized to make up a nonsense stat in order to  drum up page hits, and that it's still used by ESPN only because he was working for them at the time?

Sir I don't believe it.

No, I think it is an idiotic stat that Hollinger sincerely believed was something other than nonsense.

I also have strong doubts about anyone on this forum who uses PER as their go-to stat for player comparisons.

Plenty do, some even like the more crude NBA "efficiency" stat.

But if you think that the Celtics can't get Asik this offseason, again, I don't know what to tell you.

If the fact that there isn't a defensive center on the roster is your main reason for not getting Love, are you on board if Ainge acquires one tomorrow?

I like the newest attempt -- PIE.

I don't think their changes did much good.

They're still adding PTs + FGM - FGA. So once again shooting marginal shots at 33% on 2s or 25% on 3s leaves you with an unchanged PIE. Meanwhile such a success rate would dramatically hurt your teams chances of winning.

The denominator is interesting though, a weird way to look at usage but for all counting stats.

You asked what KG, Paul, Ray, and LeBron did/won before they won championships.  All I did was answer that:  they did way more to prove themselves than Love has done so far.  It's not even close.

It's hard to prove yourself when, at times, you've been saddled with historically bad teammates.

Sheeesh.  You had to remind us of what a drag Glen Davis was on our team that year ...

I'm almost happy. I think all this talk about getting Love means we won't be getting him. I'd take him as a FA but not for the price of a trade.

We never get the guys people say we are close to getting or guys people make many threads about. Danny doesn't make the trades or the picks the way the rumors say he will. When he makes trades or picks, people never know until it's a done deal. Even when Woj says things, it's AFTER the deal is done.

Kelly pick/trade, no one had any idea about it. KG and PP was said months before but that's only because the deal was agreed to but had to wait on PP's contract. Even then, they got the throw in guys wrong. No one knew about the Perk trade until it was done (everyone was shocked, even Perk lol). We found out about Lee and Craw without the rumors. In fact, people had Lee's bags packed with Bass' to Houston for Asik. All of these deals didn't have a peeps worth of threads and articles until it was over.

Actually, this conclusion is starting to make me sad, it means that we probably won't be picking Gordon if we keep the pick. :(
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Also got to take into account, Love actually wants to leave. That factors into the leverage Ainge can have over Minny. If Minny wants picks, Ainge can offer it. Case closed.

Of course, the price has to reflect the risk. I imagine that if Love won't agree to anything with us, he also won't agree to anything with any team that can offer close to Ainge's max bid (given his comments, it sounds like it might be high). Thus, the risk of Love walking will be priced in to his trade value.
This.

I can't imagine Danny trading for Love without something lined up to get him to resign but if he took a flyer on Love being convinced to sign here after his contract is up, his price has to drop significantly.  The #6 would be off the table.  Sully and AB with expiring contracts but without a pick (or #17 at most but no AB)

I think he is fool's gold.  Shiny and looks like the real thing but lacking real value.  I don't think love brings us a ring.

I can't wait to post that we didn't get a defensive center in 24 hours.
