I've heard that Golden State doesn't want to give up Klay Thompson.

I think that would be a pretty safe assumption.  Great player on great contract...if we had him, I wouldn't want to trade him either!
then they won't give love. They traded their picks to Utah already, and no one wants lees contract.

If we're willing to take on Kevin Love without an extension it's a foregone conclusion IMO.

But I hope we don't do it. Or if we do, I hope we have a second move ready beyond Asik.

If this is true then the continued ineptness of this front office amazes me. Rather put butts in the seat over building a competitive basketball team.

Gsw cant go far with the current lineup and love might help them with this issue. Thats why you give up thompson amd take the risk

Lee and thompson for love can work.

I'm not sure that that trade makes the Warriors that much better.  Love offers a bit more production than Lee, but losing a good two-way player in Thompson is a big step backward.

Maybe he was talking about trading for a guy he feels is the missing link on a team ready to win a title.  The question asked was "would you ever" make that type of trade.  He could have easily been talking about a completely different situation.  It was a vague question.

All Wyc said was they are not going to make ten picks in the next five years.  He also said Ainge had 6 guys he liked in the draft.  HE also said that if they team cannot make a trade he was fine with drafting two new guys and playing the young guys until they either develop or become valuable in a trade.

Wyc has said since before the season ended that he expects fireworks.  This is nothing new that he said today.

I am not saying they will not trade for Love.  I am just suggesting you may be reading too much into this.

I"m sure Danny knew how his answer would be interpreted, so there's that. But it also would have been newsworthy (and not in a good way) if he had said, "Nope, we'd never do a trade in that circumstance".

He's surely still got a lot of competition for Love, and as others have noted, Cleveland well could trump his offer by handing over the first pick; but we'll see how this goes in about a month, if not sooner.

I think Boston Celtics organization is in a bit of a panic mode for a star player.

They want the public perception of an aggressive program , like the old days .

It's been a while since the title and they don't want to loose the momentum of being relevant in the NBA.

To stay in the lime light and be discussed in the media you need STARS

Stars generate interest and interest generates contracts....this all leads to making money

Losing KG and Pierce .....were great player .....but were also the BLING of the Celtics ....something to attract attention ...media money makers ...feathers in your cap.

Wye , the owners need to continue this aggressive building program ,  keep Boston on the front page of Sports.

I don't think they can afford for Rondo to go .

No stars .....is a bad thing .....money making wise..

Stars attract other stars , stars are necessary to make the most media generated money .

Boston needs to keep a couple " name players " on their team

I think Love is a good fit for Brad Stevens.   I think they think along the same lines about how basketball should be played.

Stevens won't tank ...... So the lottery route isn't going to work so well with a mindset like his.

I think DA is in the do it at all cost s for the above reasons.

not to mention, we've never really won by tanking....3rd time we've gotten shafted in the lottery. can you guys imagine another year of suffering through 25wins only to watch on draft night as the C's pick 6th and Cleveland wins the lottery again?

didnt work for Duncan, didnt work for Durant, and now didnt work for parker/wiggins. time to go the other route. get another all-star in Love and hopefully that attracts more good players

I mean, there's about a 99% chance we'll go after Love.  That doesn't mean we are getting him.  Other teams will have offers.  We have lots of picks, but perhaps they'd prefer to take back talent... something we lack.
Considering how poorly they have drafted over the years, you make a good point.  They may be scared that they will draft the next Derrick Williams, Johnny Flynn, or Wesley Johnson with a #6 pick.

Plus, do they really want to turn a 6 year "rebuild" into a 9 or 10 year "rebuild?"  It's getting ridiculous.

David Kahn is no longer GM there. Much to the dismay of everybody's entertainment.

Flip Saunders is in charge and you can really only judge him on two picks...Shabazz Muhammed and Gorgi Dieng. Dieng looks like a very nice pick and the jury is still out on Shabazz IMO.

True but there still must be a lot of pressure on Saunders to fix the team sooner rather than later.  And most people think the Muhammed  pick was horrible.

I think if a Kevin Love move is made, an Asik move will be in the works for immediately after. But I sort of consider that to be move 1 and 1a. I think that move #2 will either be on draft night as well, or very shortly thereafter.

If we could wrangle Stevenson from the Pacers that would be something to think about, or Hayward from the Jazz, but I am not sure who else may even be a possibility to get either in free agency or trade this summer. We may be stuck with Green for another year, but then again he may benefit from being a number 2 or 3 scorer and starter rather than try to be a number one. Doubt it, but maybe. I can't help but hope if we put him in the right situation he will flourish into a quality role playing starter guy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Danny also traded up a little bit from the Nets pick (assuming that he kept it) to pick up a draft prospect that can likely help now such as Aaron Gordon (for defense), or McDermott or Stauskas if any of those guys fell.

Ah, what I wouldn't give to see the monkey's banging around in Danny's head.

We're certainly going to try and get him. But so is probably half the league.

Well said, and a TP for injecting some sanity into the "Sully and Kelly to the HOF" discussion here.

Add sanity to an imaginary discussion. Too Funny.

I still don't understand the Green bashing. To say we'd be "stuck with another year of Green" is just wrong we could be a lot worse off.

We all know he is not a number one guy, even he knows it and admits it...Still being a number one option he was able to put up 17 points a game on a bad team while mostly playing the other teams most athletic and best offensive option. He is athletic enough to contain the James' and the Durants' of the world. Will he stop them? No, does he wear them down and body them up pretty well. Absolutely. He is a good two way player, his shooting was down this season due to the fact he was the only guy to score and was always being guarded heavily himself.

As a number 3 guy he has proven to average good numbers. Roughly averaging 16 points and 6 rebounds a game while shooting in the ballpark of 45% and around 34% from three. He struggled in Boston as a sixth man then had a whole year of recovery from open heart surgery. If we add Love the pressure for him to be the main guy comes way way off. Depending on what other moves we make he would be our second or third, maybe even fourth offensive option depending on how you rank Rondo.

There aren't very many third options in the league that can average roughly 16 and 6 while shooting 45% and playing the other teams best offensive player night in and night out, and his contract really isn't bad at all for his production.

The GSW fan websites think they have a strong offer - Lee, Barnes and Thompson (though they would be reluctant to include Thompson) to get a deal done.  This is a much better deal for Wolves to take then to take 1st round picks from us and start a semi rebuild again. Do you remember the last time they made the playoffs?

I think Golden State is crazy if they offer David Lee, H. Barnes and Clay for Love.  That is too much.  I know there are no draft picks in that offer, but still.  2 starters and 1 young player with some upside, seems like a lot.  I think that would be a mistake for GS.  Giving up too much of their core team.

Which is why it's a fan trade machine concoction (typically based in fantasyland) and not an actual offer. I could see GS offering Lee/Thompson or Lee/Barnes but not all three.

Good point. I know it isn't the GS front office dreaming that up, but you would think that their fans wouldn't gravitate to deals that made the team worse u know? Maybe they are just more generous in GS? haha
Happens here all the time.

That trade is ridiculous.  David Lee is a consistent 20 and 10 guy with a handful of assists and over 50% shooting.  This is on one of the better teams in the league by the way, not one of the worst.  This is also with much fewer touches and plays run for him than Love (who has one of the greenest lights in the league).  What is Love going to bring the team that Lee doesn't?  His 3pt shooting isn't going to help you when you're trading away the second best 3pt shooter in the league (arguably).
