Cavs open to trading the #1 pick

Shouldn't the Cavs be open to trading Irving right now instead?

Imagine walking away from this draft with two of the Big Three, and then going into next season with crazy cap space.

That would be pretty cool.

Draft Wiggins. Trade Kyrie for #2 or #3 pick and draft Embiid or Exum as well.

Cool, perhaps, but it wouldn't make their team any better in the foreseeable future.  The chances of either player being better than Kyrie are small, especially in the case of Exum.

Someone who has been to Cleveland before, school me on the city. Is it really THAT bad?

I live in Cleveland, it is a very nice city, but it is very cold and snowy in the winter.  That said the biggest problem is not Cleveland it is the Cavaliers.  They are perhaps the most mismanaged franchise in all of sports over the last 15ish years. 

I mean they have done basically 4 things correctly during that 15ish year time and two of the four (drafting James and Irving) were no brainers.  The only other things they have done correctly were taking on Baron Davis for Mo Williams and getting LAC's unprotected 1st rounder in the process (which became Irving) and trading for Varejao about a month after the 2004 draft (when Varejao was picked).  The rest of the time has been debacle after debacle staring with perhaps the biggest blunder in recent NBA history in letting Boozer out of his contract to try and game the system only to have Boozer sign a massive contract with Utah and leave.

And then they can repeat the process every 3 years after they've failed to build a contender around Wiggins and Embiid and they're threatening to walk in free agency, and they have the #1 pick again in 2017 or 2018...

Hey maybe the C's can be their trading partner in 2018, trading the #2 or #3 pick from Brooklyn in 2018 to add to their championship core of whoever Danny drafted and swindled from other teams by then.

Chris Grant made a couple of other nice moves.  Getting a future Memphis #1 for taking on Wayne Ellington's contract was smart, as was the J.J. Hickson trade.  I liked the Deng move, although it was a waste with a coach as incompetent as Mike Brown.

Overall, though, I agree:  just poor management.  Bad draft picks; bad free agent signings; a terrible coach.

The Cavs might move the #1 pick for a star veteran, because they want to win rather than get younger. They're not going to trade it for two lesser picks.

Rondo sends:
Rajon Rondo
Jared Sullinger OR Kelly Olynyk
2014 Pick #17

Cleveland sends:
Andersen Varejao
2014 Pick #1

Cleveland can then start Rondo at PG (moving Irving to the SG spot) and trade Dion Waiters, who clearly doesn't mesh with Irving.

Rondo + Irving makes Cleveland instantly relevant.

Boston can then Draft:
* Embiid (rim protection) + Smart (replacement for Rondo) or
* Exum (replacement for Rondo) + Vonleh (rim protection) or
* Parker (volume scorer) + Vonleh (rim protector)

Not sure if Cleveland would be up for this, but I'd definately be happy to offer!

In a draft this deep, having two top 6 picks makes it pretty hard to go wrong...
