Someone who has been to Cleveland before, school me on the city. Is it really THAT bad?

Yes. I prefer Detroit in all honesty. That bad.

I have insulted Cleveland before in a post, and I do take it back.

The city is nice, and quaint. There are a few and well known restaurants/bars that really add a beautiful view of Cleveland. People are also nice.

The only issue is Cavs is a small market. Plus, there is just so much uncertainty around that franchise right now. The 1st pick definitely helped them immensely. Getting a prospect like Wiggins should instill some hope in the franchise.

The Cavs might move the #1 pick for a star veteran, because they want to win rather than get younger. They're not going to trade it for two lesser picks.

Looks like Cleveland just became the favourite to land Kevin Love.

I would be shocked if Love agreed to sign an extension in Cleveland.

Love isn't going to sign an extension anywhere.  He's waiting for free agency where ever he winds up, even if he expects to re-up with that team.

It probably has less to do with the city, which seemed like every other city in the brief time I was there (good bits and bad bits), and more to do with the sheer incompetence that surrounds that organization.

As much as it pains me to say it, there's probably a better chance now, in all honesty.

What LooseCannon said earlier makes a lot of sense -- if Boston wants to land Love, they're going to have to put together a team that makes him close his eyes and say "yeah, I could definitely make a deep run with this team."

If Simmons is right (not something that I'll co-sign right now) and Love is traded before or on draft night, then not only is Cleveland or whomever going to have to spend all year convincing Love through their play and their front office that he should stay and sign an extension, but every team that thinks they have a shot at him is going to do the same. It's going to be the Dwightmare all over again, and that might play to our advantage as a franchise: We might not be able to offer Minnesota the most attractive trade package, but we can offer him the opportunity to be the face of a marquee franchise in the NBA (plus a metric ton of money), one that has a decent coach, a great front office, and a demonstrated willingness to build championship contenders smartly.

In the last 10 years, the Cavs have signed one moderately sought after free agent: Larry Hughes.

The dysfunction that is at the heart of Cleveland's problems is a function of what a deeply unattractive city Cleveland is for NBA superstars. The only trades worth making for the #1 involve: (a) clearing bad salary; and (b) long term locked in contracts.

What if they traded the Number 1 to Brooklyn for Joe Johnson and Brooke Lopez? Both players are signed for another two years, and could be an inducement for Kyrie to stay. If Brooklyn was dumping both those players, they could begin a much needed rebuild, and ship Deron Williams to Dallas to play with Dirk and Monte Ellis - such that the Mavs' pick could find its way back to Cleveland.

If Lopez, Johnson, and Irving were there (and if Waiters, who I am convinced is a showboat cancer type player) were gone - I think Deng thinks about a long term deal there.

Lopez
Johnson
Irving
Deng
Tristan Thompson

That team may not win the East - but it will make the playoffs.

The city is fine, nothing amazing, but solid.  I really liked the people there though in general and they are good sports fans.

I feel for them because the Cavs organization is so terrible.  And yet they keep getting rewarded with picks over and over again.

As someone who watched a ton of LeBron there, let me say the team around him was terrible.  And the organization has floundered since.

If the Cavs were evil, they would convince Portland to resign Aldridge to a long term extension without a no trade clause for big bucks then trade him for the #1 before the ink dried.  They could also go after Blake Griffin.

Irving-Love would make the playoffs in the same way Rondo-Love would.

Anyway, any ideas how we can trade for the #1 pick?

Shouldn't the Cavs be open to trading Irving right now instead?

Imagine walking away from this draft with two of the Big Three, and then going into next season with crazy cap space.

Lol the cavs might not slam the phone on you for something like the 4th and 10th pick, no way are they giving up the first for the 6th and the 17th let alone the 1st & 33rd.
Let's keep this logical lol.

They aren't trading the pick for anything but an All star and another top 10 pick OR a top 10 player.

I shot a video in Cleveland.  I was there for a couple days... saw everything there is to see.

It's actually a pretty little city.  Very quiet.  THe weather was wonderful when I was there.  It's boring as heck, though.  In all seriousness, I asked about 5 locals the same question... "I'm here for a couple days... what should I do?"... and all 5 literally gave me some variation of the same answer, "well, check out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... and uh... I think the Indians are in town".

To me the strangest thing was that we were there in the middle of the week and the roads were almost empty.  Totally not use to a city without traffic.  It was like being in "I am Legend" or something.

In college, I knew a few people from Cleveland during the time that there were no Browns (after the team left for Baltimore).  They were p---ed, but they were the most hardcore football fans I've ever met... despite not having a team.  They all had stories of taking road trips to Pittsburgh just to p--- on the Steelers' stadium.  Definitely good sports fans.
