There's a really easy alternative to trading the farm for Kevin Love, paying him 20 mil/per, and then watch him complain at the slightest hint of adversity for 6 years.

Doug McDermott can be as good as Kevin Love, or close to it, without the trade cost, cap crippling contract, and poor leadership.

Check out this workout footage and interview released today: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Doug-McDermott-6504/

McDermott crushed the Combine last week after crushing all levels of college bball for four years. His wingspan was longer than thought, his vertical was way higher than thought, and his agility time was outstanding.

It's time to brush off the white boy stigma on this guy and see him for the future all star and possible Hall of Famer that he is.

This guy projects to be a better defender at small forward than Jabari Parker, and he has a great chance of being a better scorer as well.
Because right now he blows Parker out of the water. The only thing Jabari does better is bully people near the rim, but Jabari is going to be an undersized PF and that strength will be neutralized to some extent.

McDermott can be a better defender at the SF position than Kevin Love is at PF. He can also be as good of a scorer. Take a look at Kevin Love's shooting %s. They're not actually that good, he just pads stats on a pretty bad team.

Right now the Celtics are in position to put together a real and stable contender for the next 10 years, with all the draft picks we have now and in the coming years.

Sully and KO are both due for break out years, and PF is our best position by far.

Another great reason to draft McDermott is because we can probably trade down a couple or a few spots to get him, and pick up another late first or early second.

You don't want to end up like the Knicks, Nets, or Timberwolves, overpaying one way players, crippling your cap flexibility, and being an embarrassment for years.

It's better to rebuild the right way, making smart draft choices, even if it takes another full year to start looking like a contender.

It's going to be just like last year with Olynyk, or the year before with Lillard, or Stephen Curry a few years ago. Guy stays in school 3-4 years and totally dominates, gets drafted lower than he should have, and then everybody looks back and wonders how the guy slipped so far in the draft.

One aspect of McDermott's game that is being overlooked is his ability to run defenders ragged for an entire game. Somebody like Paul George might be able to do a decent job defending McDermott, but it will take maximum effort to do so, and will leave George exhausted and relatively neutralized on offense.

It's coming. All Olynyk needed was his confidence back, which we saw towards the end of the year. When he is confident and fully utilizes his dribble drive, he's going to be one of the better scorers in the league.

Sounds like a text message Doug will be sending to Danny on Draft Day when he slips into the 20's!

I will say that McDermott was probably helped a bit by his quick times at the combine. He's more athletic than people assume.

Still, there's just no comparison with Love's 25-13 level stats.

I want to watch him dominate ONE NBA game first, not some workout video.
