Capela seems like he would get eaten up, just so skinny.  Saric won't be around at 17, but if he was I'd grab him. Hoping Danny trades up the 17th pick to take him.

I'm assuming that Capela would stay in Europe for a couple years while he developed his game and grew into his body.

Ive heard the Capella is more Ibaka then he would be Jordan? Where is his best fit center or power forward? I am really big on Lavine if he is at 17 that would be one of the steals of the draft I believe.

Larry Sanders looks to be the best comparison for Capela.

Sort of a combo C/PF. Lack of a jump-shot forces Sanders to play mostly C minutes. If he had a jump-shot, he'd probably play PF ... but Sanders (like Capela) is a superb athlete (plus above average defender/rebounder) and that allows him to play as an undersized center and be effective.

Would be thrilled with Saric, Nurkic, or Mcdaniels at 17.
But even if we don't land one of those guys,  I'll just have to trust whoever Ainge picks.
I don't GM for a living.  LOL

Great  topic.

I think, obviously, that it hinges on the first pick.

If, despite the odds, land Embiid or take Vonleh, then it makes sense to take a scoring wing at #17.  I already liked Stauskas going into the combine and if anything, he's made a more positive impression.

If we take a wing or guard such as Wiggins, Exum, Smart, then it might make sense to look for a big.  I'd love it if Nurkic fell to us.  I don't think he will make it to #17, though.  That means probably looking at Capella or Payne in that range.

The problem is, are either of those guys really the 'best player available' at that range?

I thought Stauskas was a small shooter, like J.J. Redick or Fradette. Basically your run of the mill Euro-white guy shooter (no racial). Color me impressed by the very fact he's 6'6. Learning that his athleticism and agility numbers are actually solid makes me warm up on him even more.

This draft's depth is pretty [dang] underrated. Maybe going 5-8 might serve us better by giving us a Drummond.

I've been trying to break the JJ Redick comparisons all year.  He's a completely different player, both in terms of size and game.  Of the top college 3-point shooters, of which he was certainly one, he both attempted and made the highest percentage of his 3s unassisted (I think he shot about 43% on unassisted 3s, and was near 50-50 assisted and unassisted.). He is really good at creating his own shot due to his size, quick release, and decent ball handling (which, along with defense, is where he thinks he needs to improve the most.)

stauskas's game is more like Reggie Miłler than Redick for all the reasons you mentioned. He looks like a lottery pick to me.

At 17 i like a lot of players. I am hoping for 1 of the many scoring wings in that range.

I find the question of who we are going to get with number 17 to be more interesting than who we will pick with our still undetermined lottery pick.

It seems to me that there will be a bunch of good candidates to choose from.  One of these guys might  still be available.

Saric
Stauskas
Warren
Nurkic

Lavine
Anderson
Porzingis
Capela
McDaniels
Payne

I would be thrilled if any one of the top four names on that list is still available.  I could deal with one of the rest.

Who else do folks like at that spot?

I would be OK with Saric at #5, so I would be ecstatic with him at #17 though I don't see it happening unless he commits to playing another year for Cibona. It might be a stretch even then.

I think your tiers are pretty legit. Out of the top tier, I'd say that Nurkic and Warren have the best chance at being around. I'd be very, very happy with either. I'd also be very, very happy with Porzingis. As for the C prospects, Porzingis's ceiling is only lower than Embiid and he has less bust potential.

I've been watching some Kyle Anderson videos, including his draft combine interview, and I am really starting to fall for that kid.

He's risky as heck.  He's one of those guys who looks like he's either star or bust.  His game is not suited to just being a role player.  Maybe Boris Diaw is a decent comparison, though.

The first person I thought of when I saw him play was Danny Manning.

I definitely wouldn't hate taking him at seventeen.  It would be kind of fun to have him and Olynyk together.  No athleticism, but a whole lot of skill and smarts.
