I find the question of who we are going to get with number 17 to be more interesting than who we will pick with our still undetermined lottery pick.

It seems to me that there will be a bunch of good candidates to choose from.  One of these guys might  still be available.

Saric
Stauskas
Warren
Nurkic

Lavine
Anderson
Porzingis
Capela
McDaniels
Payne

I would be thrilled if any one of the top four names on that list is still available.  I could deal with one of the rest.

Who else do folks like at that spot?

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I would personally put Lavine in the top tier but I agree, there should be lots of very good choices.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

I'm holding out for Rodney Hood.

Wow, he's 6'11 with a 7'4.5 wingspan? I thought he was 6'8 or so.

I had different measurements in my head for Clint. That changes my opinion of him a bit.

I do wonder if Capela could be Deandre Jordan or Fab Melo?

Defiantly not Melo. Moves really well defending the pick and roll. Knows were he is on both offense and defense. Hasn't been reported to hitting his head on a door way....

Maybe Jordan, but he looks like he's more polished already on offense. Has really good hands and can jump threw the roof. Love to see what him and Rondo could do. He's a little rough and still young, but worth a shot at 17. Especially since on DraftEpress a lot of guys that were in the 17 area have moved up several spots.

Capela seems like he would get eaten up, just so skinny.  Saric won't be around at 17, but if he was I'd grab him. Hoping Danny trades up the 17th pick to take him.

Great  topic.

I think, obviously, that it hinges on the first pick.

If, despite the odds, land Embiid or take Vonleh, then it makes sense to take a scoring wing at #17.  I already liked Stauskas going into the combine and if anything, he's made a more positive impression.

If we take a wing or guard such as Wiggins, Exum, Smart, then it might make sense to look for a big.  I'd love it if Nurkic fell to us.  I don't think he will make it to #17, though.  That means probably looking at Capella or Payne in that range.

The problem is, are either of those guys really the 'best player available' at that range?

NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

I'd put McDaniels and Anderson both in that top list. McDaniels is a real lockdown defender with near-Wiggins-level athleticism and offensive upside. Anderson is a carbon copy of Dario Saric, but I actually like him a little better after his standing reach was measured at 8'11.5, which gives him better potential to defend PF's despite being slightly shorter.

But of all those guys, its Nurkic by far. If you aren't persuaded, go look up his epic per-40 stats, appreciate that Adriatic Leage and Eurocup competition is way stronger than the NCAA, and talk to me then.

I thought Stauskas was a small shooter, like J.J. Redick or Fradette. Basically your run of the mill Euro-white guy shooter (no racial). Color me impressed by the very fact he's 6'6. Learning that his athleticism and agility numbers are actually solid makes me warm up on him even more.

This draft's depth is pretty [dang] underrated. Maybe going 5-8 might serve us better by giving us a Drummond.

I've been trying to break the JJ Redick comparisons all year.  He's a completely different player, both in terms of size and game.  Of the top college 3-point shooters, of which he was certainly one, he both attempted and made the highest percentage of his 3s unassisted (I think he shot about 43% on unassisted 3s, and was near 50-50 assisted and unassisted.). He is really good at creating his own shot due to his size, quick release, and decent ball handling (which, along with defense, is where he thinks he needs to improve the most.)
