Ya'll gonna feel funny when Randle is getting a near double double , while Wiggins and Parker have to grow up.....learn to be men .....Randle is already there.

Randle now measured good......he's  a big dude.

He is THE Safe pick for the Celtics ..good parents.....right attitude like Sully .

Randle is going in top 6

Randle is for sure going in top 6.

I don't know if hes the safest pick.. I would go with Parker being the safest pick in terms of what you're getting.

We most likely are picking #6... Randle will probably be gone before that.  I think the top 5 will be Wiggins, Embiid, Parker, Exum and Randle.

that does seem to be the general consensus doesnt it? if so, then...welcome to the boston celtics vonleh!!  :D which would be fine with me at number 6.

I disagree.  I doubt we select Vonleh.  He is not starting center material, and we don't need another stretch power forward.

To be honest, I don't put a lot of stock into height/wingspan measurements. Basketball heights at all levels are fudged. Standing reach for big men is important, but other than that - I just look at the prospect's productivity, existing skill set, potential skill set, and athleticism. If someone that I expect to be 6'1" is actually 5'11.5" - I really don't care.

You may not care, but scouts and GMs do.

If that is how the top 5 go, and the Celtics have the 6th pick, i think we are looking at Aaron Gordon or a trade. I cant wait to see how the balls drop on Tuesday!

Per Blakely's Twitter:

Julius Randle said he will interview with the #Celtics today. #Celticstalk

Kyle Anderson, Rodney Hood & Noah Vonleh among the players that have/are scheduled to interview with the #Celtics this week. #Celticstalk
what i found to be interesting is that of the 13 players the celtics are interviewing so far, only two of them are pf, and none are centers.

looks a lot as if #17 will be a guard or wing.

Kyle Anderson, PG/F, UCLA
Dante Exum, G, Australia
P.J. Hairston, G, D-League
Gary Harris, SG, Michigan State
Rodney Hood, F, Duke
Zach LaVine, G, UCLA
Doug McDermott, F, Creighton
Shabazz Napier, PG, UConn
Julius Randle, PF, Kentucky
Marcus Smart, G, Oklahoma State
Nik Stauskas, SG, Michigan
Noah Vonleh, PF, Indiana
T.J. Warren, F, N.C. State

No Aaron Gordon yet?  :o

That pic may be why he goes #1 in draft.

I bet he is high on the list  like exum, wiggins, embiid are.  These guys are going to get private individual workouts, longer interviews.

You know i thought Vonleh might be higher up on the list but i guess not as high.  Stevens wants guys who have pretty high iq's , feel for game, passing.

Enough times if you screwed up one play or turned over the ball etc, he would bench you .

Patric Young = 6-10 + almost 7-2 wingspan but only an 8-7 standing reach??

That is like Jeff Green. Good size, great wingspan but lousy standing reach.

I don't know if anyone has already pointed this out (I haven't read through this whole thread) but it's important to take both the 'standing reach' and the 'max vertical leap' with a grain of salt because some players have been known to 'tank' the standing reach in order to exaggerate their vertical leap.  This is most common with guards, but also happens with some bigs (who want to look more athletic).   Both these numbers tend to be the least reliable when players have been measured multiple times.

The combination of the two, which will be posted as 'Max Vert Reach' is fairly reliable, though.

Otherwise, for static indications of length, plain old 'head height' and 'wingspan' are more reliable than 'standing reach'.

Maybe Randle doesn't have alligator arms after all. Same height as Gordon, but longer reach. That is very surprising. Randle stock will go up, Gordon down.

Their wingspan is a whole 1/4 inch different.

Let's see where their Max Vertical Reach numbers end up.

Gordon projects to play primarily as an SF.  Randle at PF.  I don't see why their having nearly identical height & wingspan would make Gordon's stock go down and Randle's up.

It would seem more appropriate to compare Randle to Vonleh in that regard.

Adreian Payne is going to be an impact player in the NBA. 6'9 without shoes and he doesn't have that insecure 'i drive a dodge stratus' inch and a half shoe-bump. He has 3/4 inch soles, like a man does.

And the 3rd best standing reach? Bring on the Payne.

Several posters have commented on the shoe sole bump being 1.5" for a lot of players.

The fact is, when you are 240-260 lbs and your job is to jump up and down a lot, you want a little more cushion in those high-tops.   Every little bit helps relieve the pounding to the knees and ankles.

So the few players still using relatively 'thin' shoes will probably get told by their NBA trainers to use thicker soled shoes once they join the NBA.

True, but the perception was that Gordon was long, and Randle was not.  I just think the fact that his reach is a little longer helps GM get over the perception that he is not long enough. But you make a fair point as to position, and the importance of length relative to it.

Semantics, but no, we are not "most likely picking #6".

We are "more" likely picking #6 than any one of the other 7 possibilities.   But that is still only a 34.2% chance.

There is a 57.1% chance we are picking 1, 2, 3 or 5.

Payne is going to be a role role player at best. He unfortunately has small lungs for his body and you can see him after 5 mins, slouching trying to catch his breath.   At best he will give you maybe 10 good min in a game (min spread out) but don't expect much else.
