Yeah it's kinda hard to figure out what Chicago's long-term vision is or if they even have one.
I know alot of it centers around Rose and I've got to think that Chicago is going to have to make a decision sooner rather than later on whether to build around him or to build around Noah and just assume that Rose will never regain his health again.
The part that baffles me is why on earth they just dealt away Luol Deng for nothing.
If I had to guess, I would say Chicago is probably going to remain a competitor for the long haul. I don't see them dealing Noah and definitely could see them adding a big piece this summer like Melo or Bosh.
They also have pieces to deal like Butler, Gibson, Boozer's expiring deal, Snell, etc.
Well, goal number one is to build the best team possible without dipping into the luxury tax (unless they have a strong contender).
Rose's contract takes up so much of the cap that their number one option has to be building a team with Rose as the cornerstone. Ideally, he becomes an Amare-like albatross so that the team has no choice but to wait until he comes off the books and decide to trade Noah to the Celtics in a rebuilding deal.
The other thing they are waiting on is to see how Nikola Mirotic turns out. He is arguably the best player in Europe and there is a strong belief that he will be in the NBA next season. Since Mirotic is no longer bound by the rookie scale, there is some belief that the Bulls might try to clear cap space to offer him more than the MLE.
They dealt Deng for immediate savings of $20m this season and financial flexibility in the future.
