Injuries aside, earlier in the year he was a 5 Million a year player, I think.   I am not crazy about him, as  I like a shooting guard that can shoot, but he can defend with the best of them.

I prefer a shooting guard who can shoot as well. A defensive guard who doesn't do much on offense can only effect the game so much. I would much rather take a guard who can create or shoot lights out over the defensive types. Certainly, ideally you want a 2 way player.

For example, last year, i think Ray Allen would have remained a more effective player on the Heat than Avery Bradley during their title run. The same goes for old busted Ginobili or Danny Green for the Spurs.

And after a lot of debating back and forth above, this is WHY I said give him a 2 year deal.  If he blossoms into a star, then great, pay him.  You've got bird rights.  If he stays about the same, then trade him in the offseason, he becomes an expiring contract and still has some potential so somebody will bite!

I could get behind giving him a two year deal, because then his deal would expire at the same time as Green and Wallace.  I rather doubt the Celtics will have much use for cap space before then, anyway.

I'd rather have a new deal for Bradley expire one year after Green's.

I'd rather have a series of expiring salary slots than a ton of cap space.

I say pay the man.  He's done everything that's asked of him, he's improved every year, and he gives 100% hustle on every play.  I don't love his shot selection, but his shooting is drastically improved and this can be coached.  For this money I'll take the injury gamble.

Yes. He's still a good asset and he's a projected starter. If he starts then it's good. If not then I'm hesitant we have another Courtney lee. But I still believe AB has a higher ceiling then that. I'd take the risk and do that deal for Bradley.

I'd agree with this -- Cap space is looking like it's going to be less valuable in the coming years, since more teams are going to have more of it.

It's easier to convert cap space to salary than the other way around.  Like cash vs gift certificates.  It seems like you should always be able to play the role of salary absorber in a multiway deal, but maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture.

I think that's true if you are way under the cap like Philly is, but I've personally always thought cap space is overrated. I remember reading an article within the last year stating all stars from the past 10 plus years mostly come from teams that drafted them or by trades, with a small percentage by free agency.  Even if we have to overpay a little I'd rather keep the asset, and flip him later on if we want to.  At the very least a sign and trade.
