  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Unreal outcome.
To think that we couldn't peel a young prospect and a 2nd rounder for Bass is amazing.
Would you give up a young prospect and 2nd rounder for a backup big like Bass?  Me neither.
Pretty much what I say.  Bass isn't even worth an expiring and a bag of chips.

Hawes, who is taller and has been more productive than Bass, was traded for just two 2nd rounders, so why would we expect to get a good young prospect and a 2nd rounder for Bass?

Overall, Phili, with Turner and Hawes, undersold us and stole the action today. Ainge did the smart thing and forwarded his assets to June.
Hawes is garbage and couldn't guard a 5 foot lamp post he's also softer than toilet paper. He also expires this season compared to Bass next season.
They'll use him in a playoff push and try to re-sign him. If he asks too much they'll let him walk. Cleveland have no hope and are trying to salvage their goal of making the playoffs. Not only does Earl Clarke stink,  he's basically the water boy with Deng in town so moving him tixks that off while letting Bennett play some 3 behind Deng and Hawes can play 4 with Verajao+Zeller.
They'll now hit the playoffs with
Irving
Waiters
Deng
Thompson
Verajao
Hawes
Zeller
Jack
As their playoff rotation with
Miles, Gee and Bennett getting cigar time.
Might just scrape into the 7th or 8th seed.
Very talented young squad, just cant catch a break coaching or management wise.

I have a feeling there was a lot of low balling when teams were calling, thinking that DA wanted to go into full tank mode.

Based on the deals that actually got made I have a feeling it was pretty much lowballing across the board.

Lol... searching "celtics" on twitter you see a ton of angry fans mad that Boston didn't do anything.  I guess a lot of experts will need to eat some crow.

Looks like I was wrong.  I figured there was a 60-70% chance Rondo would be moved.  I figured there was a chance we'd swing in the other direction.  At the very least I expected us to make some small deal like dump Green or Bass.

I guess Ainge and the team are confident they can still end up with a Top 5 pick and keep Rondo at the same time.  I'm cool with it.  Best-case scenario we land a star in the draft and keep Rondo long-term.

Or, make a trade for a star on draft day and keep Rondo long-term.

Yup. The Celts need to find a way to get a big-time player this summer via trade or free agency.

Whether that's Melo, Bosh, Love, Marc Gasol....hell I'd even be happy with a Pau Gasol, David Lee, Luol Deng, Omer Asik or Zach Randolph

But we have to find a way to get a player. Hopefully if we offer a package including our 1st round pick and some combo of Green, Bradley, Sullinger and Olynyk, someone will bite.

Or maybe we can get a decent player or two (Gortat, Deng, whoever) and keep our pick along with Rondo and Sullinger.

Jeff Green I don't really care about.

We have about 23,000 picks over the next few years. We don't have to trade this year's pick.

I thought that at least one of AB or green or bass would have been moved. Surprised we did nothing.

In any case, this offseason will be interesting.

I knew no one would take Green, I didn't want to move AB, and the Rondo deal wasn't going to happen.  But I'm p---ed we didn't move Bass.  The problem is that Bass actually helps us win games.  He's a limited player, but a net positive in my book.  As such, I would have dumped him for nothing.  We def could have gotten a 2nd rounder for him.

The thing about that is people who get mad that Danny didn't pull the trigger on any deals don't understand the difference between rumors and reality. People will kill Danny for not trading Bass for Asik or Rondo for half the Kings roster like there was a deal sitting in front of him that he turned down. It's as likely as not that the teams never had more than cursory talks that didn't involve any particular players.

I think that moving any of those two for second-rounders and cap relief is a horrible deal, and judging by what went on at the DL, it doesn't seem like anything else was on the table.

So if Avery walks at the end of the season we have nothing to show for developing him all these years?
Spencer Hawes got a pair of 2nd rounders. He stinks but he's probably more valuable league wide than Avery.

How can Bradley walk at the end of the season, he is a restricted free agent?

If they're considering bringing Bradley back then it would be foolish to trade him just for a couple of second rounders.

Honestly I'm disappointed. Glad Rondo is here along with Sully but all week I said anyone else could go.

The 76ers are being praised as huge winners and they only really got rid of expiring contracts. I thought at least Bass/Hump could go for solid contributor or Green and filler for an expiring.

IDK Danny said wait until summer so I trust him. I guess I just wanted to see something now. Either way we are no closer to a top pick by no moves so this hurt. Guess some draft day deal is the plan now.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Another team offers more for him than we do.
We don't match that offer. He walks.

How do you think?

the celtics did as well as the Sixers, they just did it long before the deadline when they dealt Crawford, Brooks, and Lee.
