Danny is wildly overvaluing Rondo. The rest of the league isn't as shot in the fanny with him as this board is.

But ... if the Kevin Love thing is halfway legit, then there may well be some merit in hanging onto him.

He's valuing Rondo properly. As in based on his impact on the game and not his ft% or fg%. He's just not trading him under duress so he doesn't have to give him away for pennies on the dollar.

Credit Ainge for not accepting a low-ball offer.  Lin + asik would have been bleh.  ROckets weren't willing to include Parsons.    McLemore and a 1st would have been nice, but that deal will still be on the table draft day as long as McLemore continues to struggle.

Better off keeping him if that's the kind of cruddy offers we were getting.  Doesn't look like anyone around the league values Rondo enough to give up serious assets for him.

People get too worked up over bogus rumors and meaningless speculation.  There was never any rush to get deals done before the deadline.

For the disappointed crowd, you still have the offseason to look forward to.
My disappointment purely stems from the fact that this team is too good right now.  I was hoping for a top five if not top three pick, we will be lucky to get a top ten.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more Rondo DNPs down the road.
Might not even be necessary.  We stink with or without Rondo.   He hasn't moved the needle much.

Might need to sit Sully. Or green, if we are playing the wizards.

over all im shocked, I totally expected at least a deal to move humph or bass to free up for min for KO and Fav. Thought at least we would see a Humph for B Gordon swap.

I guess there was nothing worth while out there....

So any chance they end up buying out Hump, so he can go join a contender? (And free up space for KO and Vitor.)

If Rondo's going out an we're not getting a top 3 pick this year guaranteed, there's almost no point in trading him.  There's absolutely no point if Wallace isn't also being gotten rid of.  Right now, we've got Rondo, future cap space and picks to offer any big time free agent.  I don't think we can get any more picks without gagging on them.  So, if the deal doesn't improve our cap situation, what's would be the point?

Again, those are nothing but rumors. We also heard that there were no talks at all between the Celts and the Rockets. Think about players in their 20s who are regular all-stars and on or near all-nba teams that aren't trying to leave and their teams want to keep. How much do you think it would cost to get one of those players? Quite a bit? That's the same kind of offer Danny would want.

i don't think anyone can really celebrate here.  Those who wanted us to trade vets (Rondo, Green, Bass) for young assets/picks should be pretty disappointed.

Those who wanted us to upgrade the roster should be a bit disappointed... we just wasted Humph's 12 mil expiring, Bogans 5 mil expiring and the Paul Pierce trade exception.  Seems those assets will expire with nothing in return.

I'm rather surprised we did nothing.  But we could still possibly get a bigtime pick this year and keeping Rondo certainly isn't something to be sad about.

None of those things were wasted.

- Bogans can be cut anytime next year, so he can be traded then waved on draft day or any time in fact.
- Trade exception expires a few days after the beginning of free agency, so there is still time to sign a player using it.
- Hump can be resigned for cheaper, or he is simply money off the books. Either way it's a win.

We have until the draft (or shortly after) to use the trade exception. Also, I think Bogans is on a 3 year non-guaranteed contract so we can use that whenever we want.

If Rondo's going out an we're not getting a top 3 pick this year guaranteed

Due to the lottery, you cannot guarantee that a team that misses the playoffs is not getting a top three pick (if it hasn't traded its pick) and you cannot guarantee that any team will get a top 3 pick.

I think what he's saying is that there isn't a single team that would be insane enough to give up a top 3 pick in this draft for the likes of Rajon Rondo.  Maybe a pick in the 7-10 range.  There is no way Rondo is worth a 2014 Top 3 pick.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Unreal outcome.
To think that we couldn't peel a young prospect or an expiring and a 2nd rounder for Bass is amazing.

I didn't believe any of the Rondo rumors -smelled of Ainge trying to build value. Morey would have low balled Ainge if they were really talking seriously.

I'd guess and say they were teaming up to build value in Rondo and Parsons and using it as a great opportunity to help each other out long term.

What worries me now is moving Jeff Green's deal any time soon. I guess we'll see how our draft position looks and who the likely available candidates will be.

I've completely underestimated the importance of the repeater tax and avoiding long term medium money deals when cap penalties are so brutal.

Thank god Danny managed to get so many picks while we could.

I'm just praying he's talked about 'developing' the young guys/real future of this team over guys like Humphries and Bass.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.
