I would move Green for Asik if the next move is Melo or even Hayward by the start of next season.

Rondo
AB
Hayward
Sully
Asik

that is a good starting 5 IMO.

Regardless that move would still give us trade chips of Crawford (his value is to high right now, DA has to sell high on him), Bass, Bogans, Hump, Lee is playing well of late and may no longer have negative value?, picks out the wazooo and a TE.

DA can do some damage with all that.

I've posted this trade before, but...

Who says no here:

HOU receives: Kidd-Gilchrist, Bass
BOS receives: Asik, Taylor, Smith, Haywood
CHA receives: Green

Boston waives whichever two of Brooks, Hump and Bogans it cares to before making the deal.

So Bill Simmons mentions the trade exception in his tweeter. How does that fit in?

It is actually how I thought the C's could get involved in a Asik trade before the season.  With the trade exception, they can just absorb Asik, or some player from a third team, so Houston would get a trade exception of their own to use later in the season.

The problem is, if the C's use the trade exception, it would put them over the tax line, most likely to a point where it would be difficult to get back under.  And that would not only mean Wyc would be paying the tax this year for a team that can't sell out games and isn't a contender, but it also puts them at risk of paying the repeater tax if they go over the line again next year.

I don't think we can acquire Asik using the exception, anyway, unless we found a way to clear salary in a prior / concurrent deal.

I believe we're hard-capped at the "apron" due to the Bogans sign-and-trade.  Asik would put us well over that cap.

Boston send Green and Clippers 2015 1st rounder
Boston receives Asik

Cleveland sends Varejao
Cleveland receives Green

Houston sends Asik
Houston receives Varejao and Clippers 2015 1st rounder

This seems like the most likely scenario as Cleveland gets Green for their SF position and opens up playing time at the PF position for Bennett and Thompson exclusively. Houston gets their first rounder and a complimentary defensive piece to put next to Howard that can hit the 15 footer for the foul line extended. Boston gets their future defensive anchor of a center to put next to emerging offensive and rebounding star Jared Sullinger

And in the meantime, Bass switches to small forward as he played a lot at that position in the last two year's playoffs guarding Melo and Lebron for stretches. When Asik goes to the bench Sully switches to center, Bass to PF and Wallace gets time at SF. When Sully and Bass sit Asik comes back in with either Humph or Olynyk playing next to him before returning to the starting lineup late in halves.

Consistently hearing that BOS isn't all that enthralled with Asik. League source on if Jeff Green could be involved in Asik deal: "No way."
Yeah I can see us moving Bass for Asik. But if we're trying to get better right now, we're not moving Green unless we're getting an all-star back.

Charlotte says no.  Also, we'd only have to release one player since we currently have an empty roster spot.

you think?
I don't think we're moving Bass/Green just to get Asik and a platter of meh parts. Smith is an okay offensive big man, but other than that blah.

Yeah, I don't see any way Danny trades Green for Asik, unless there is another deal for an impact SF involved.  I think Danny would gladly trade Bass and a protected first for Asik, but more likely if Boston is involved, they would be a third team.

What I could see happening, if Houston is not sure exactly what they need most right now, and want to wait until the trade deadline for the final move, then a three-way trade like this could be in the works:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ms5hqxz

Boston gets: Turner
Houston gets: Humphries and a protected first from Boston
Philly gets: Asik

Perhaps also bring in some more pieces to balance out rosters a bit.

Why for Boston?  To get a look at Turner and gain his rights, while also shaving about $5 million in salary off the books this year, giving them much more flexibility below the tax line to make other moves (which they would need)

Why for Houston?  They get a look at Humphries, who could actually be a decent backup 4/5...but really just to get his contract to move at the deadline, along with the first round pick as filler.  With that $12 million expiring contract, they can take on a lot more salary, and therefore a higher paid (and hopefully bigger impact) player at the deadline.

Why for Philly?  Because they like Asik.

Fair enough, and probably appropriate. I'd been basing this on the seeming willingness to move Green (in a few reports) -- perhaps because they wanted to keep clearing room for the summer of 2015.

If the Cs are more bullish on his future with the team over Asik, certainly understandable.

Chris ~~ interesting idea.... how is it the Cs can take back over $5mil less in salary (by essentially swapping Hump for Turner)? Something in the new CBA i don't know about there.

Would need to be a heavily protected pick, and I'd hope Ainge would have a follow-up move with the PP trade exception already in his pocket...

Bass only really works at SF because we've had SFs who have guarded the other forward while still being a SF on offense. Bass at SF full time is a disaster offensively.

If we're sending out first round picks to cut payroll I hope it saves future salary not salary this year.

For a couple of months until Ainge finds another SF option in a trade I think they would be just fine.

Wallace/Bass as your SFs full time?

We'd probably sink to last in the league on offense.
