My question is  - if the trade is going to happen tomorrow, if other teams are involved - do they hold out their players tonight???

I would say No.  The deadline was set by the Rockets, not the league or anybody else.  The Rockets could ultimately back out and wait it out until the real deadline.  So teams should be at full strength tonight regardless.

The deadline is today because players traded today can still be traded this summer, or something like that.  It's not arbitrary

Houston wants to have flexibility to be able to trade incoming players by the 2/20 trade deadline.  In order to do that a player has to stay on the roster at least 2 months.  Hence the 12/19 deadline.

Just thinking with Asik being from Turkey I wonder how Colton Iverson is doing over there, or even old friend Semih Erden for that matter.   :P

I'm surprised by Zach Lowe's analysis:

That potential BOS/HOU trade is...a little bit of a yawner, maybe? Not sure it moves the needle much for either team.

Would give HOU a bit more versatility/insurance against injury (and a pick, perhaps). Not quite sure why BOS is super-interested.

For me it depends on what the pick is.  If it's a 2014 pick, I'm disappointed.  If it's the lesser of our 2015 picks, for example, that's a bit better.  I think Sullinger would thrive at the power forward position, and with Olynyk also at the 4, there's really no need for bass at all.  I understand wanting to clear long-term cap room in getting rid of Lee, but I'd much rather get rid of Bogans if the goal is staying under the tax this year.  Assuming we resign Bradley, we're not going to have oodles of cap room next year or in the 2015 offseason (unless Rondo goes, in which case PANIC!!) -- might as well keep Lee around until Wallace's (and maybe green's) contract expire at the same time for the 2016 offseason.  Lee has shown himself to be very useful.  While he's replaceable, there's a cost in doing so, and there's no reason to pay that cost if you don't have to.

With 9 first rounders in the next 5 years, I think all of us would only be disappointed if its one pick...& that's our own in next years draft.

We can afford 1 future pick.

I certainly hope it's 2015 rather than 2014 but it's fair money either way really. Would've liked to keep Bass but we have other players we want to develop in that PF position.

Asik should make us a slightly tougher out in the playoffs this year and will be an important piece going forward. Asik-Sullinger-Green-Bradley-Rondo is an elite defense, even if we'd struggle like hell to get baskets.

He's been thinking C's are tanking this season and would trade down. Thinks its the wrong way forward I guess...

Dwight Howard and Brandon Bass played together on Orlando frontline, but sources insist Howard was never enamored with partnership.

Don't think it really matters. Houston is not the Magic or Fakers. Morey and McHale will just tell Howard to shut the #@#% up and play!!! ;D

Worse case they dont have to play together and bass can come off the bench. Lee is a nice pickup for their depleted bench. Kind of dumb though bc they already had him

defensively and rebounding they will be elite.  I think they will score enough especially if Sully can stay healthy.  I may be overly optimistic about him but I think he can average 18/10 the rest of the way if he stays healthy?

Jeez you guys are stingy.  Quit hogging all of our picks.  You have to give up something to get something.  You can afford 1 of your 9, regardless of what draft it is.

Serious talks on Boston-Houston package for Asik have included Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a 1st round pick, sources tell Yahoo.

Wojo

No green

Hopefully it's the Clippers pick, or at worst this year's Nets / Hawks pick.

My reaction if it's just the Clipper pick:

Surprised by it too.  But not everyone is sold on Asik.  On paper he's a total stiff.  Yeah, he had a good season rebounding, but he wasn't even in the top 100 for defensive rating or the top 40 for blocked shots.  You have to look at some deep "points allowed on/off court" breakdowns to really back up the idea he's an "elite" defender... and even then there are reasons to be skeptical, because those "points allowed on/off court" stats could just mean Asik's backup was a garbage defender.   That and the fact he's a terrible offensive player.

I don't think 18/10 is overly optimistic at all. There's just almost no shooting in that lineup if Bradley is having an off night.

A deal with Boston would reunite Omer Asik with former Bulls assistant coach Ron Adams. They were close in Chicago.

I'm not a big stats guy, but when Asik wasn't on the floor in Chicago it was Noah and in Houston it's Dwight.

I'm all for Bass and Lee for Asik but adding the first is a little too much. Maybe we can get 2 of their best 2nds and our first would be the clips
