My question is  - if the trade is going to happen tomorrow, if other teams are involved - do they hold out their players tonight???

I would say No.  The deadline was set by the Rockets, not the league or anybody else.  The Rockets could ultimately back out and wait it out until the real deadline.  So teams should be at full strength tonight regardless.

The deadline is today because players traded today can still be traded this summer, or something like that.  It's not arbitrary
I believe its actually tomorrow.
It is, and it's the has to happen right now so any assets in the deal can also be in a deal at the Feb. trade deadline. Once traded they have to stay put for 60 days and two months from tomorrow puts us at the trade deadline. Push this past tomorrow night and there is a less incentive for the Rockets to trade Asik before Feb.

I like Asik, but it seems like we'll need to resign him to be able to contend with him.  Given the market rate for bigs these days, and Danny's reluctance to pay them, And Bass and Lee were both justifying their contracts this year. I'm not sure how this plays out long-term.

...unless Danny's plan is to showcase Asik and flip him at the deadline to a contender...

Hearing Asik to #Celtics is close.  Hearing Lee, Bass, & no 1 pick.  Celtics reluctant to give up 14' pick

Nice.

If the Celtics give up Bass, Lee and their own 2014 pick I will throw up

It would be crazy if a mid-first-round pick in a draft where we already have multiple first-round picks holds up this trade. At this price, you have to get it done.

Sounds bizzarre, given that they're all pretty much the same pick, something in the 15-20 range.

I assume Danny tried the '15 Clippers pick first, maybe that's what he means?  I'd be reluctant to give away our pick this year too... still a ton of season left to be played.  Injuries could set in, team could slump, etc.  It's a very valuable pick.

Yeah, I don't get the hesitation and haggling over what will amount to late teen, early twenty range picks.

Seems like a healthy mix of people who think it's a steal and people who think we're getting robbed.  Should make for some fun "analysis" of Mr Asik in the coming months.
