I don't care about a draft pick, I want a proven NBA player..draft pick that late will likely become a bust anyways (Fab Melo, Giddens, Johnson, etc)
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

At the end of the day whatever we give up I trust Ainge. There's no way he gets taken to the cleaners in a trade.

Great words from a great man

those "points allowed on/off court" stats could just mean Asik's backup was a garbage defender.

I'm not a big stats guy, but when Asik wasn't on the floor in Chicago it was Noah and in Houston it's Dwight.

Mike
Yes... and there's nothing suggesting he's an elite defender this season.   He had fine defensive stats in Chicago, but that was the best defensive team in the league with or without him.   Most people just point to his performance last year as a sign he was "elite"... and there's lots of reasons to be skeptical of his numbers last year.  I'm sure he'll be ok... but he's a notch below even grandpa KG last year as far as defensive impact.  Good defender... Still plenty of reason to debate if he's "elite".

I like the idea of having a Perk-esque big who can defend the paint and pull down rebounds.  I'm curious who will put the bucket in the hoop once you replace Bass and Crawford (great mid-range shooters) with two offensive liabilities (Rondo and Asik).  Yes, Rondo can pass the ball... but are we really comfortable that Green, Bradley and Sully can cover the offensive load?

I want to know what the next step is because with Asik we are clearly a playoff team possibly a top 4 seed. Does Ainge do a blockbuster deal at the deadline?

If all you have to give up is Bass, Lee, and a future 1st, I'm not sure you can call him 'elite'.

Having said that, he's a great compliment to the current roster, elite or not.  Perfect fit.

He's been elite defensively all 4 years in league. He was elite in Chicago, in Houston, and this year.

The only non-elite defensive metric I've seen of his is individual post defense. Which just isn't all that important, see Bargs post defense over his career compared to his overall defensive impact.

Elite defense, inept offense.

Lee Bass and pick to sweet n the deal ...is one I approve .

Sends Asik to East. ,  keeps him out of Wests hair,  doesn't help Heat or Pacers  , Nets   who are after title this year.

76's don't need Asik,  they got Nerlins ......to hold on to. and Haws

Cavs got Bynum and Andy........he would be sharing playing time ALOT again..with those guys.......not a good situation for him

Asik wants a starting job.........he wants to play a lot .....that's what we need ...a big strong 7 ft defender to play a lot of minutes

The Celtics have one (job) for him .....  And the perfect bench man. In FAV to back him.....offensive minded big and defensive minded big.....great combo

The Celtics are THE best team on the rise needing a starting center ......and we have Rondo already.

It should happen.......we ll have a complete starting five.

Among reasons Bass is still a Celtic ... most folks close to the Omer Asik talks still saying Asik trade is most likely to go down Thursday

Per Chris Forsberg of ESPN:

Quote
Asik’s impact in protecting the hoop is impossible to ignore, both as an individual defender and the effect on his teams as a whole. While he’s played sparingly this year (311 minutes of floor time), the Houston Rockets’ defensive rating (points allowed per 100 possessions) is a measly 96.9 with Asik on the floor. That number rockets to 102.4 when he’s on the bench.

That isn’t an outlier. Two years ago in Chicago, the defense-minded Bulls owned a defensive rating of 89.7 with Asik on the floor, which was 5.6 points lower than the team’s already minuscule rating of 95.3. In his first NBA season, Chicago saw similar results when Asik was on the floor (90.9 defensive rating) versus when he was off (99.5).

In 16 appearances this season, Asik is allowing 0.667 points per play, according to Synergy Sports data. Of players with at least 135 possessions defended, Asik ranks fifth in the NBA (FYI: Boston’s first player on that list is rookie center Vitor Faverani at 33rd overall).

It’s not just a small sample size. Two seasons ago with Chicago, Asik played 65 games and allowed 0.653 points per play (277 points on 424 possessions defended). Of players with at least 200 possessions defended, he ranked first in the league. No. 2, ironically, was Brandon Bass, a player the Celtics might deem expendable in the quest to secure Asik’s services.

Not sure how valuable defensive ratings are as I'm not an expert when it comes to stats, but his defensive impact appears to be very consistent.

You need a defensive anchor like Asik when playoff time rolls around.  If Bass + Lee + Clippers 1st gets it done, I'd be psyched.
