The only Rondo trade i would do: Detroit/Drummond

Tim, your posts are foolish and I actually shouldn't entertain this since you lose credibility with each passing one. I'll just say this, we were talking about how Drummond compares to Howard favorably at the same age. You brought up Shaq at 20. Now don't you think that even comparing Drummond to Howard and Shaq at the same age is a pretty clear indication of where his value stands and the vast potential he has?

  If you've ever posted anything that would make you an expert on credibility I must have missed it. But beyond that, how do you think that showing that Drummond's numbers are well below Shaq's is a clear indication of his vast potential? Also, fwiw, take a look at his numbers on synergy. He scores (as I said) in transition and off of offensive rebounds or cuts (generally, from what I've seen, when his man leaves him to stop dribble penetration). So his role in the half court offense (aside from putbacks) is probably about like Perk was for us.

  Also, look at his post up, pick and roll man and spot up. Combine his attempts for all three of those and the total, on a per minute basis, is well below what Perk's getting for OKC this year or what Asik's getting for Houston this year. Where's the vast potential? In order to see big improvements in his offense he'll have to add things to his game that don't really exist at this point in time.

  Still, he's a very good player and I'd love to have him on my team. It just seems that people are overhyping his play IMO. All of what I posted, btw, was completely unrelated to Rondo. I'm pointing this out so maybe you'll get it.

By the way, what on earth would Houston want with a 'stretch' 4 who is as allergic to even attempting 3s as Bass is? Couldn't Green plus protected 1st be way more tempting on the basketball side of the argument?

If Detroit called and was willing to do this, how could even the most hardcore Rondo fans turn it down?


We would now have a very dynamic and talented front court in Sullyond. That might be the best front court in the NBA in a few years. We still have a very good wing in Jeff Green, shooting guard in AB, and Crawford is a solid PG who is a better shooter than Rondo. He's even creating a [dang] good amount of points through assists right now.


This trade makes us better in the future and better right now, which is what is so cool about it.


For it to happen Detroit would have to HIGHLY covet Rondo and want to pair him with a PF J Smoove. Even more importantly they would have to decide that Monroe is worth moving forward with at the center position, is he good at the 5?

Rondo at this point in his career is still a better player than Drummond, and while Drummond does have a ton of upside we also have a LOT of future cap flexibility and a ton of future draft picks.  We could potentially sign an All-Star big man in free agency of steal one in the draft (as we did with Sully). 


Rondo has earned a lot of my respect in the way he has dealt with this entire rebuild process.  His willingness to work through it, stick by the team as it's leader, and work with a young coach (who has less NBA experience than he does) shows a great deal about the type of character he has.  People like that don't come along very often.  After sticking with a bad team though all of this, if Boston were to then trade him off that would create a horrendous view of Boston accross the league. Trading KG and Pierce is one thing, everyone knows they are declining and Boston wanted to get younger...but Rondo?  You'd be hard pressed getting any future stars to want to sign here.

Plus Rondo is a guy who can potentially make everyone around him better, much the same as Jason Kidd in his prime, and Chris Paul does now.

Plus Drummond, though extremely talented, is still undersized for a center.

Tim, maybe you should re-read the title of THIS thread.

  I know what the title of the thread was. Maybe instead of just knowing the title of the thread you should actually read what people post before you insult them. I guess it would never occur to you, but it occasionally happens that threads about whether to trade for someone contain posts about how good that player is or will be. If you need to convince yourself of this, check out the Asik trade rumors thread for posts about how well Asik plays.

If the Asik deal goes down - and understanding that I am NOT, in any way, shape or form one of the Rondo annointers on this board - the rebuild is far enough along that I believe you take Rondo off the block entirely, if he's on it at all.

I would have no interest in Drummond for Rondo at this point, with Asik in tow. I'd rather take a good, long look and see if my assumption that we're a reliable scorer at the 2 and some bench help away from being "back" is correct.

  By the same token everything we've heard about the Celts points to Danny looking for a much better package for Rondo than most of the posters here. And while Drummond's definitely a good player he has a long way to go to be the franchise player people claim he is.
