I'd 100% do Asik for Green, but I'd ask for Terrance Jones or Donutz back too.

When can Bogans be traded ?

Would you use your expirings to deal for Asik and keep Green ?  Or would Houston hang up on this :

15' Clipper first round pick, Humphries, Bogans

for

Asik, Jones

Probably have to make the $ work but something of that affect.

Probably, I like Asik going forward more than Green. Elite defensive Cs are more valuable than middle of the road starters at the SF position.

But I don't see Houston going forward with it and it doesn't really alter the C's position much for this year either.

This.

No -- I do think it is a fair trade as a straight swap but at this stage in the rebuilding process I prefer having a highly athletic two way SF like Jeff Green more so than a limited center like Asik. I would reconsider a swap like this further down the road depending on how the roster develops over the next few year(s).

It's either December 15th or January 15th for Bogans.  I believe it's December 15th, but I can't remember if it changes since he signed under a sign-and-trade.

Houston would hang up on Humphries and a 2015 1st for Asik and Jones.  Dumping Asik's salary next year doesn't give them enough cap room to do much of anything.  (They'd probably be left with $6-7 million, which isn't that much above the mid-level).  They want talent that will help them win now, because that's why they went off and signed Howard.  (Also, Humphries makes more than Asik and Jones combined, so Bogans salary just gets in the way of your hypthetical deal and makes it impossible per salary cap rules.)

Don't really care about Asik. Just get me Greg Smith.

On second thought, yes I would!

You put a defensive, rebounding big man on this team, and our Celts would surprise a lot of people.

Yes to this trade.

Then I would try to swing a deal for Rudy Gay to replace Jeff Green.

I like Asik, but I think the time for acquiring guys like him is still pretty far in the future. We need a championship-level #1 and #2 before filling out the roster and committing salary to the supporting cast, IMO.

What I really like about Jeff Green

* Very good size + athleticism to matchup physically/athletically against the best SFs in the league
* Good defensive ability
* Can shoot from the perimeter at a good clip

I think the group of SFs who can do those three things is fairly small. There are quite a lot who either have high quality size and athleticism or three point range ... but a much smaller group who have both elements in their game. And those players who have both are prized assets who are hard to obtain.

And I think it is important for the Celtics to have those two things because I think you want shooting from that SF spot because of Rondo + because of the dominant SFs (LeBron, Durant, Melo, P.George) in the league and in the Eastern Conference in particular.

Add the fourth element

* Solid scoring ability as a 15-18ppg threat

And Jeff Green becomes quite a valuable 3rd/4th cog in the machine long term. For me, more valuable than a defense/rebounding only big man like Asik.

I think there will be enough opportunities further down the road to find a quality center to fill that hole for Boston. I feel better about those chances than finding a SF who can do the things J.Green can do.

no way... it's never a good idea to make a trade in which you are losing the best player, unless you're getting a good haul in picks and prospects. houston doesn't really have either.

No.

Asik is a defense only guy, while green is a two way player.

Everyone says good bigs are rare, but is Asik really a good big? Among starting centers he's irrationally not even top 15.  Is he even top 20?

People tall of his defensive impact, but how many players can shut down elite swingmen better than green has over the last season or two?  In today's league you need a defensive swing more than you need a defensive big.  Can we use Wallace?  Sure, but then you're starting a guy who will average 5 ppg and will become a liability on the offensive end of the floor.  Puts I still don't believe he had the size to defend LeBron.

Green shuts down elite players as well as anybody in the league, and he still gives you 16 PPG and 5 rpg while sorting fairly efficiently from the field.  He's also probably our best the point shooter.

without getting into it much
green gone wallace is our starting sf
people point out green's inconsistent play but wallace is just as bad and has shown not much scoring power so far during season
i like wallace's defense, rebounding and passing but as of now his scoring is an issue
he'll look better with rondo (won't everyone  ::)   ) but i'd rather go after asik for a power forward, humphries, bass and guard (brooks? crawford, bogans) and maybe a pick

little side note I'd love bogans as 3rd string sg and sf

Asik is to old(29) i feel like we can get expiring contract(s) and or a young so so player that has potential, or a draft pick.

Its when most players begin to physically decline, often it happens sooner. (see Perkins, Kendrick)

Decline depends on injury sometimes.
