Exactly. Basically because Ainge didn't want to pay Perkins the type of contract he was going to get somewhere, so we would otherwise have let Perkins walk for nothing, Not signing a lumbering, limited 7 footer coming off acl surgery to a long term lucrative deal has proven to be a very smart move in retrospect. Getting anything valuable for him such as Jeff Green and a 1st round draft pick was brilliant. Blowing that 1st round draft pick on Melo was stupid, but you can't do everything right I guess.
There's nobody past Melo that's really lighting up the league anyway. And if we want to talk retrospective, Green also got us a second-rounder that we used to make the Courtney Lee S&T happen, and Lee seems to have decided to start playing well again, so there's that.

I agree with both f your points. Nobody after Melo has really done anything yet, so no big loss in that respect, and yes, the second rounder that helped us get Lee was useful too.

Plumlee woulda made a nice center for us:(

Ainge is telling the truth here and Green is being payed accordingly! Green gets paid 3rd option money... the guy who is all around solid (can't rebound if he's paid too, he's definitely not getting those bonuses), can win you a couple games. I think he can be a #2 but he should not be counted on to be the man.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

He is suprisingly doing well in phx. Good trade by both teams in that trade

So Green is very good and complimenting others with his open 3s here, thunder dunks there, occasional facilitation plus good defence. A Jeff of all trades if you will.

Green brings almost nothing to the table other than occasionally scoring outbursts and relatively reliable floor spacing.

He looks like a superstar when defenses give him wide open 3's and straight paths to the rim.  He struggles to create shots if this isn't the case.  Unless we are playing Miami, of course.

Physically the ability is there, it's not between the ears though as I see it.  He is athletic enough just doesn't bring it every night with a sense of urgency.
He's got more than enough physical ability but I don't see much in the way of skills to create shots.  He can explode past someone or over someone but he's really not clever with the ball.

Green is a smooth, coordinated player.  He's pretty effective at getting his own points if the matchups are right for him and his head is in the right place.

But you're correct, he's not especially skilled.  He's not a very good dribbler, despite how effective he is driving to the hoop.  He's not a very good passer, and he doesn't have good floor vision.  He's a very mediocre rebounder given his physical attributes and position.  He gets some blocks sometimes, but doesn't generate steals and overall doesn't make a really noticeable defensive impact.

I love Green but I can't argue with Ainge's assessment right now.

I was impressed with Green last season and I admit I came into this season thinking he would come out tha way he left off especially with Pierce and KG gone. But it's been up and down.

KG will be forever quoted saying Green can be one of tha greatest of all time. He has tha tools to be that but as I said before, he has to want it. Ainge was blunt about his thoughts and I'm sure someone will question Green about it but I hope it lights a fire under Green to be more than what he's shown.

Much of basketball is quick lateral movement in small places, and in that aspect I think Green has average athletic ability.  He doesn't have nearly the footwork or first step that Pierce had for a comparison.   Pierce's ball handling is far superior too.  Pierce is also much stronger in the shoulders, and probably can take the pounding better driving to the hoop.  Combine all that you don't see Green break down his man often.  He usually gets his points in the flow of the offense, or if he finds himself mostly in a straight line to the hoop he'll take it hard then to the hoop.

He's an above average defender. He's no star, but he's not a bad player.

Just 2 games ago, Green was averaging 17/4 on 47 FG% and 44 3FG% as our 3rd to 5th option.

Ya'll need to give Green a break.

He is not in the role we all expected him to be in.

I think he is in exactly the role we thought he would be in.

Funny, I thought with a hurt Rondo, we'd be force feeding Jeff Green 20 shots per game and he'd be at the line 9-10 times a night.

Green is basically being used like he was last year, only Jeff is playing behind Bradley and Sullinger on offense.

Everyone who is down on Green right now is thinking he is supposed to be some 20 point guy each and every night, but he is nowhere being utilized that way.

The ball is not in his hands 75% of the offense, in fact, it could be argued that the offense has Green hanging out at the baseline 3 point line 75% of the time, by design.

Green has been in the league a long time and Green has always been Green.  He's our leading scorer in a fluid offense in which nobody is force fed shots.  So you would consider it a different "role" if he took 5 more shots a game?  It's the same role!  He's was never going to turn into Allen Iverson after 27 years of being Jeff Green.
