why Marshon Brooks isn't getting any minutes?

Wasn't Minnesota supposedly interested in him? I don't totally remember the situation, but you have to imagine he would at least be worth a 2nd round pick. He's cheap and they thought enough of him to pursue him in late June. I don't think his value has changed all that much.

As for the Crawford love, I am so so happy he is carving a spot in Boston. If he can keep playing at this level, he is a perfect 3rd guard. I personally couldn't believe that 80% of people on cb preferred Brooks over Crawford.

Dude played plenty last night, and I wasn't impressed. He was looking to score every time he had the ball in his hands, and was reluctant to give up the dribble, even to pass to a teammate. I get that he's frustrated by his lack of playing time and wants to prove that he's a good player, but everything about his game looks selfish right now. If he really wants to earn time in Stevens' system, Brooks needs to demonstrate that he can get his teammates involved, not just play one-on-one.

If anyone thinks that that Rubio fake was the only thing that made him look terrible on D, I don't know what to say. You don't need to be in rhythm to play defense, AB was getting NO minutes but when he went in he played hard and defended well. What held him back was how he looked on offense (as bad as Marshon looks on defense). Marshon is tragic on defense. That was the most simple fake I have ever seen and he bit so hard you would have thought they were in The Matrix and Rubio was Neo! If the kid focuses more on his defense he would be better, he is too worried about offense. When your teammate (Bogans) has to tell you don't try hard enough on defense, you know there is a problem. If Crawford can do it, Marshon can except he looks as bad as advertised every time he gets ANY minutes. He has the tools but it looks mental to me, it seems as if he has no clue what he's doing, at times he looks disinterested and other times he looks confused/lost.

Of course the Rubio play wasn't the only instance, but he looked somewhat decent the rest of the time.  Defense isn't everything, you know.  Brooks is the best guy on the team at creating his own shot - he's got all the moves, and is extremely crafty.  So defense isn't his thing, it's not the end of the world.  He can certainly do it, so I do agree with you that it's probably mental, but if you're not playing at all it's probably more so the team defense that he may not be used to or comfortable with yet.

You realize that you just made my point, right?  Just because the last 6 seasons were built on defense doesn't mean it was always that way.  I don't remember a lot of talk about defense prior to the arrival of KG.  Anyone can play defense, which is why scoring is horrible today because the majority of players are just athletes who don't know how to do anything except run, jump, and beat people up thanks to the Bad Boys.  Many are drafted very raw with great potential, but not a ton of skill.  Yes, Avery Bradley is an outstanding defender, but he never passes the ball (look at last night) or even looks for teammates most of the time.  It is much more difficult to find someone who can score like Brooks than it is to find 3 and D players.  Let the kid play for crying out loud.

Stevens isn't the sort who would yank a player for missing a shot he is supposed to take.  I think he would be quicker to remove a player who makes the sort of defensive mistake that suggests a lack of understanding about the system and what he is supposed to be doing.

Same difference, though.  A defensive mistake instead of a missed shot.  Isn't it the job of the coach to instruct their players on these things, or do coaches today use more of a 'do-it-on-your-own-time' sort of approach?

As far as I can tell, Crawford's shown more ability to successfully create his own offense than MarShon has.

I did like his move in the lane that finished with a lefty shot, though.

Well, we weren't contending then, and hadn't really been an upper echelon team for a long time, so the focus wasn't solely on defense.  I actually love defense, and I realize that it is the essence of the game, but it's gotten to be a bit much, even for me, lately.  Last time I checked, you still had to score more points than your opponent to win, right?  It cannot be all about defense - you have to be able to score.  Plus, the more shots you make and free throws you attempt allows you to set your defense.  What's so wrong about that?  Maybe if we ran a play other than the pick and roll we'd be better.  Ever since the Pistons won it's been nothing but thugs on defense (especially in the post which ruined that part of the game) and pick and roll on offense, and it needs to stop.  The two-man game is just that, a two-man game.  No one cuts or even moves anymore, which would make a team much harder to defend.  I mean, whatever happened to plays like these? -

Especially that beautiful one starting at 4:02.  I don't know nearly as much about basketball as you guys do, so what is that play called?  Cousy says on there that it's a split, but idk what kind.  Is it a variant of the Flex, Princeton, or Ucla offenses?  I really don't know and haven't been able to find it bc of my serious lack of knowledge.  Sorry about this.  I guess it's pretty pathetic, huh?  I love old school basketball, though.
