Proposed deal will send Gortat, Shannon Brown and Kendall Marshall to Wizards and Suns on course to receive Emeka Okafor & at least one pick

Seems like a fairly uninspired trade for both teams.

Are they giving the reigns to Alex Len now?

I dont like this trade for Washington. I think $14 million expiring can land more than just Gortat, who I believe is an equally good player as Okafor. I don't think Gortat elevate the Wiz in a way.

And they have to give up a pick?

Seems like not a great return for Gortat. Couldn't they get more mid-season? Will need to wait for the details. If it's two 1sts, then that may be OK.

Alex Len wins big in this trade.

Except Okafor, I hear, is out indefinitely with an injury.

This is a great trade for Washington, given that Okafor's out with injury and Gortat can instantly jump in as starting center.

Considering that Okafor is out indefinitely with a herniated disc in his neck and without him the Wizards look like thy have a worse big man rotation than the Celtics, this is the Wizards being desperate to win now.

I expect the Suns to have at least ten fewer wins than the Celtics this season.

Also, this is perfect in that Nene doesn't have to play center.  Like I said before, he doesn't like that position:

Stein reports the pick is a 2014 top-12 protected pick.

This is didn't know.

But still, that's a ton of expiring money. I think it can net more than just Gortat, injuries and all. I think with a few pieces they can net Rudy Gay from Toronto. Or Carlos Boozer maybe.

But I retract my position, Okafor being injured and getting Gortat in exchange, it is indeed a win for Washington.

I don't think you understand the value of an expiring contract.

I wonder if we'll see Okafor get bought out this season.

Phoenix and Philly are racing to the bottom.

Okafor's a solid player with an expiring contract; waiving him would be shortsighted.  They can just wait for him to get healthy and then trade him away for more assets.

That may be hard for the Suns to do without compromising next year's/future cap space.

The Wiz are trying to compete right? So I think they want to net talent for their expiring. I think they can get more than Gortat with that $14 million, namely those guys I mentioned. Those players' teams want to shed salary, a perfect match.
