The Wizards were kinda in the weaker bargaining position given that their starting center is injured and they're trying to make a playoff push.  That said, they also got Shannon Brown, who is still a serviceable player.  Marshall hasn't been all that thus far, though.

I'm disappointed that Danny wasn't willing (or perhaps was willing but unable) to acquire either Gortat or Okafor last season—an offensively competent, good-rebounding, defensive-minded center to complement KG was one of the team's biggest needs.

Gortat or Okafor would make us better so Ainge not going to trade for them

I'd be surprised if Brown gets much time. Wiz already have Beal, Ariza, Webster, and Porter on the wings. Maybe they flip him?

Or, they could scrape together a package of prospects and Ariza's expiring deal for another impact player at the deadline.

Ryan McDonough is just gobbling up picks to loaded 2014 draft. He learned a little too well under Danny Ainge. They can even still trade Okafor for something of value when he returns. I think it was bad for the Wiz though. Now they get to be maybe a 7th seed and have given up their 2014 pick. They pulled the trigger way too early. Also they will have to waive three players from the trade, anybody want Kendall Marshall?

Washington's (top 12 protected)
Minnesota's (top 13 protected)
Indiana's (top 14 protected)
their own

I wonder what the odds are of all three of those protections triggering.

I wonder if we'll see Okafor get bought out this season.
Yeah, can't see him wanting to stay on a 15 win team in Phoenix or Phoenix having much interest in holding onto him if they can save a couple million in a buyout.

Jeez, Okafor could go to Miami.

Indiana makes those odds extremely low, but the other 2 could easily happen.

I like the deal for Washington, they're a big enough market that they can make a push like this.  They still need a solid SF but if Wall and Beal can make a leap they'll be pretty dangerous.

Apparently Brown's gonna be waived, anyway - as are Lee and Marshall.  At least, according to David Aldridge.

And I don't think sacrificing a pick next year is all that bad for Washington.  At some point, you've gotta say "screw it" and start trying to win.  Yeah, it's only getting them to the first round, but that's way better than missing the playoffs yet again.  Besides, just because they'll only be a first-round exit this year doesn't mean that's going to be their ceiling in the future.  Gotta start somewhere.

Talk about rebuilding, I think Ryan McDonough is beating Masai Ujiri in the  "I'll be acquiring a ton of assets" race as of this moment.

That's a ton of picks (potentially) in a supposedly deep draft. Way to start the rebuilding process.

Disagree.

Washington is trying to make the Playoffs, if they do, then PHX gets the pick.

Indy is making the Playoffs, that's about 98% sure already.

If Kevin Love stays healthy, they can probably make an 8th seed with Rubio, Kevin Martin and Pek. And that pick is going to be either in the late teens.

PHX could very well have four first rounders by next year's draft. If that's Andrew Wiggins/Jabari Parker/Julius Randle, Mitch McGary, Aaron Gordon and James McAdoo, that's a good start for rebuilding team. Or they could trade the three and get two top 10's. Now we're talking Parker, Dante Exum, Marcus Smart, Wiggins, Randle, one of the Harrison twins, Embiid. Wow.

Devil's advocate: John Wall pulls a hamstring, Kevin Love sprains a knee, and Paul George breaks a finger on his shooting hand. Boom, triple protection activates.

If you're coaching Phoenix this season, what do you say to your team on a night in, night out basis?  They have absolutely no chance to compete and couple potentially be in the running for worst record of all time.  Hell of a job by McDonough, but I'd hate to be a Suns season ticket holder this season...oh wait, I still am for the Celtics.   :-[
