"Its just one game" argument has become pretty stale when it comes to Jeff Green. Can't believe people haven't found a new rebuttal yet.

He dropped 43 on Bron. Nuff said.  ::) ::) (Kidding)

Lack of consistency at this level is a function of talent.  Green's couldn't be in a better position to blossom given the type of team the Celtics will be. But personally I don't think he's good enough to be a key player on a championship contender.

Every dog has his day. Chances of getting a glimpse of Halley's comet are much higher than watching Jeff Green be even remotely consistent on a nightly basis, let alone productive.

If only.  He dropped almost all of them on Haslem, Anderson and Battier.  Lebron guarded Pierce almost that entire game.  I remember one time Lebron guarded him and strayed too far which allowed Green to hit a three but I think that was about it.  Late in that game, Wade guarded Green and shut him down, which is no shame because Wade is a great individual defender.

Overreact much? He was our best player in the last half of last season (playoffs included) and people are sweating over 1 preseason game?? Preseason is not about the big names, it's about seeing what the bench and rotation players can do. Does anybody even remember last preseason? I don't.  Relax....Zoolander style.

He is not a beast, but he is no where near being a scrub. Some people here treat him like he is the greatest ever while others make him seem like he is Adam Morrison.

Nailed it.

You think he was better than Pierce in the second half?  He wasn't.  Pierce averaged something like 19/7/7.

Of course it's silly to come out with this kind of post after a preseason game but I would be surprised if Green just builds off how he finished off last season mainly because he's not going to have the benefit of Pierce taking the tougher defender.  Instead of Durant and Pierce not letting Green show what he can do, they allowed him to have true PF or weaker perimeter defender matchups that benefited him.

If Green starts performing consistently (and I am not talking about superstar numbers; even though on this team he has every chance to put up those kind of stats, but I am talking about ~~15/6/3 kind of production), I will be glad to eat crow. But he has had enough time to prove his worth and I just don't see it.

Did not like his body language. He is sending the wrong message. Definitely not a leader. Am disappointed as well, not panicked, just disappointed.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
One really big positive i take from this game that I didn't watch is that in the post locker room interview video it looks a lot like Jeff Green is trying out for the role of Boobie Miles in the off-broadway revival of Friday Night Lights.

Are people surprised that he didn't bring top level intensity to this game?  Jeff Green had less to prove in this game than literally any other Celtic out there tonight.  It showed.

Once the regular season starts, Jeff Green will be our best player . . . until our best player returns to the court.  Then, he'll be our second best player.

C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

But he has had enough time to prove his worth and I just don't see it.

He did that for 2 1/2 seasons straight before he came here. Why are you acting like Green has been a 8-10 PPG his whole career? When has he had enough time to prove anything? Sounds like you are completely biased and not giving his stint here a fair shake.

The kid was thrown into the fire for his first half season here and was asked to work within the flow of an offense where players were p---ed that Perk was traded. Next season he didn't even play at all because he was out with a heart surgery. Taking this into account, for some reason, I have the feeling you expected him to come out playing like gangbusters this past season..even though he had a full year off from the NBA grind and was having trouble with the speed of the game for the first few months.

Then he goes on a tear when he was expected to finally be up to speed in February posting a consistent (like you want) 16-17 PPG for the last three months of the season. Then he stepped up his game a bit more and averaged 20 PPG in the playoffs.

Yet somehow in your eyes he has been terribly inconsistent with all these chances he has been given (still scratching my head on this one). Again, his first full season with us was just this past season, and it was right after heart surgery recovery. He was absolutely consistent for the final 3-4 months of the season.

Hell Jeff Green's career averages are only 1 point off of what you want from him for him to be deemed a consistent player. That includes the throw away half season with us and his rookie year, which is 1.5 seasons out of the 5 seasons he has played. So Jeff Green has actually been a 15-16/5-6 kind of guy more often than not in his short career so far. He did it 2.5 seasons in OKC and half a season here.

Finally, I honestly have no idea what to expect from Green this season, but lets not pretend he has been a wildly inconsistent player for the majority of his short (very short) career. He's barely even played in Boston.
