If hof weren't such serious business,I'd say both Carter and McGrady should be in.   They are both among a handful of top swing guys in nba history. They are part of the story of the NBA.  Offensively in their prime they could do things that few humans could do.  Get past Michael, Dr j, Kobe, Dominique and there aren't too many others with the myriad scoring and athletic skills VC and Tmac had.

He played 31 minutes total in 6 total games.  That is just plain silly talk.
It's the truth, is what it is. He was on the roster. T-Mac made it to the Finals, history will show it.
The espn guys were saying he never made it out of the first round. If he made it to the finals the way you are saying then he made it to the finals a lot like Rohan Davey made it to the Super Bowl. Actually not even like Rohan Davey. TMac signed the day before their final regular season game.

The facts aren't subject to ESPN's approval. He was on the roster of a team that made it to the Finals, and one rebound away from a ring.

If there were some that didn't, T-Mac wouldn't be included in their number, considering that he made it out of the first round of the playoffs.

We all know he "made it to the finals." We all also know that he did nothing to get them their and anyone with a brain voting for the HOF would take that into account.

A great player that just had bad luck with teams and health. I'm not sure he's a HOF player however.

Maybe he was the bad luck.  He leaves Toronto, the very next year Toronto wins a playoff series.  21 wins last year in Orlando, next year win 36.  Gets hurt his last full year in Houston and they make the 2nd round as a 53 win team (and push the eventual champion Lakers to 7 games), the year before with TMac Houston won 55 games and lost in the first round.

Perhaps TMac was the problem.  I mean Carter didn't seem to have too much difficulty winning after TMac left (both in Toronto and obviously in New Jersey).

Kinda makes you appreciate what Pierce has accomplished even more.  You go back to the mid-2000s and all three are in the discussion about HOF probabilities, Pierce is probably running third behind those two.

Fast forward almost a decade and Pierce is a lock for the HOF while Carter & T-Mac are dicussed as borderline.  Its amazing what Pierce was able to do in his late twenties & early thirties (and is still doing).

I felt real bad when I watched this live. It sometimes sucks how lack of success can play such a big part in a player's legacy.

I look at a guy like Chris Paul and wonder how he'll be remembered if he never wins anything. Despite his numerous years of All-NBA play.

While not knocking McGrady or Carter I think the opposite for HOF.  Who isn't in that deserves it?? and where do those 2 guys stack up against those players.
Carter never liked, put up stats but showed little of an all around game

No matter how you look at it, quality of play and length of time playing has to play into HOF voting.  I'm not sure either guy in the end makes the cut.  Mr Pierce will make it!

I think Carter is one of the most overrated players in the last 20 years. It's not like he won anything himself.

Carter "showed little of an all around game."  Stats are free and readily available my man.  Carter's career averages are all but similar to Pierce's.

Carters put up 21/5/3.8 with a career PER of 20.3

Pierce put up 22/6/3.9 with a career PER of 20.6.

Like Pierce, Carter was very much an all-around player.

Clyde Drexler won a ring as a throw-in on the 95 Rockets team. Are you going to throw him out of the HoF because he "won a ring" the same way T-Mac "made it to the finals?"
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Drexler wasn't a "throw-in" on the 95 Rockets. Did you see that team play?

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Such a disappointing career T-Mac had. And I mean it in a sense that he could have been special, I mean top 20 all time.

Now I wonder, will he be inducted in the HOF. He hes the All NBA's and All Stars but his Playoffs success might stray away voters. I for one hope he does make it. I believe that if you made a global impact while playing the game, along with the numbers an awards that back up the claim, you should make the Hall of Fame.

I think you need to look at Drexler's numbers before you call him a "throw in."
