I wouldn't trade Rondo unless we get Drummond in the deal. Monroe is not worth it imo.

sorry but how is monroe not worth it? He has more skills than Drummond. Just as good rebounder.

No flashy power dunks, chiseled body doesn't mean you are not a good basketball player

Detroit will not give up it looks like one of Drummond, Monroe for Rondo.  But if they do offer Knight, expiring contracts (charlie v, Stuckey) , 2 firsts and are willing to take Gerald Wallace contract, you have to think about it imo.

We will have so many 1sts that if next year if we really wanted to buy wiggins or parker or randle, we prob could.

This might be a good time to mention that the most-comparable player to Rondo statistically through seven years, according to baskeball reference dot com, is the immortal Paul Pressey. (No, not Phil. The guy who was on the Bucks in the 80's.)

Also on the list: Randy Smith, Joe Dumars (!), World B. Free, Dan Majerle, Doc Rivers (!!), Rod Strickland.

It's an okay list. But it's not the list of someone who's going to draw A-list talent when coming off an injury.

I don't like that opening offer from Detroit, either. We'd have to get significantly more, if only because Rondo's our best asset right now, and you don't trade your best asset lightly. But calling it a grave insult depends on a highly optimistic evaluation of Rondo's potential that I just don't think is quite justified by the numbers...

I admit not to watching Drummond much last year, for some reason the games of Detroit I saw he did not play/or did not play much. But IMO he is over hyped here, yes he has potential, so did Big Al, Gerald Green and hundreds others. Monroe on the other hand I did see, and the guy score, pass and rebound and has proven it. I'll take him over Drummond, maybe I'll be wrong in 3 years, but I'll take my chances.

First off I don't want to trade Rondo, but willing to. i would look for something like this:
Rondo, Wallace, Melo
for
Monroe, Knight and one of their expiring

Knight
AB (need to upgrade here)
Green
Sully/KO
Monroe

This is a good step in the right direction with a young team.

Rondo has a habit of stepping up in the playoffs and makes his team better with his play. Rondo IMO is the kind of player where his own stats do not show his worth. Give me a guy who comes back with a dislocated elbow and finishes the game playing with literally one good arm over most of these so called superstars any day. You cannot teach Heart!

Rondo, Wallace and Lee
Drummond, Knight, Stuckey and Charlie V

Celtics get significant salary relief, plus young talents
Pistons get top 3 PG, and solidify a better starting 5
Rondo, Lee, Wallace, JSmoove, Monroe

After contracts expire, celtics have cap space plus core of
Knight, Bradley, Green, Sully/Olynyk, Drummond

Much better! I wouldn't do it but I wouldn't think we got hosed.

To my other post and "argument", we could get more than NOTHING for Bass and picks! Just because we don't need Bass or the picks doesn't make them worthless to us! We may not get much but we can get more than nothing for them. Like I said, RR is worth more than Drummond, then you're just paying Detroit extra to take the better player right now, with no guarantee Drummond will ever be as good/better than RR and nothing more than a good player. I like Drummond but I'm not giving up RR, Bass, and first round/second round picks for him. I'm not paying someone to take RR... people have to pay us to get him, with equal pay (hard to do) or something that isn't me overpaying a lot. The trade above is easily more palatable than the other things suggested.

If you're worried about RR's injury then it's easily settled by waiting til the deadline or summer to trade him. That way we see more of Drummond and RR, to see their value.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

So you would trade RR for them and say you got equal value? If so, then I'm not going to argue, I just don't agree.

bad idea
and i also wouldn't trade for monroe. chances are he wouldn't stay and he's a good body
i'd rather court him in free agency

i just think, if Danny can't make any good moves, he's going to have to buy someone out or wait til the deadline.

I just hope Stevens is right and RR is a big part of our future.

He is right. Our GM is Danny Ainge.

Only way Rondo gets traded is if Detroits willing to give up the world for him. It would literally take a package of:

Drummond, Monroe, Knight, & a 2014 first round pick.  Maybe, just maybe, it gets done without Monroe.

eh, I think Drummond and Charlie V for Rondo, Bass and a 1st rounder would get Danny to do it

I would take either Drummond or Monroe + Knight for Rondo.  I would eat a bad contract too and maybe give them a first.   Monroe or Drummond would do it for me.  Not both.

I agree, but would do it only for Drummond, not Monroe.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
When did this offer supposedly happen?  I wonder if this is just a regurgitation of the previous rumor that Detroit is interested in Rondo.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

But calling it a grave insult depends on a highly optimistic evaluation of Rondo's potential that I just don't think is quite justified by the numbers...

Here's most of a post from a different thread about playoff numbers:
________________________________________________________
Considering that he really is just entering his prime the numbers he's put up in the playoffs are fairly impressive. Here's what most of the HOF (and HOF level players) from the last 30+ years have averaged in the playoffs, not over their careers but over the primes of their careers:

  Magic 20/7/13
  Isiah 21/5/9
  Stockton 16/4/12
  Payton  22/5/7
  Kidd  16/7/9
  Nash  18/4/10

If you look at those players many of them had their best years start at the age Rondo was a year or two ago and go up for a few years so it's not out of the question that Rondo's numbers (especially his scoring) will go up over time. But in any case, his numbers over the last 4 playoffs were 16/7/10.
_________________________________________________________

So Rondo from 23-26 or so was putting up numbers comparable to what some of the best point guards in nba history put up in their prime years (generally 25-32 or so). Anyone who would compare Rondo's value to that of Dan Majerle or Randy Smith or Doc Rivers doesn't have the slightest idea of how valuable a player like Rondo is.
