I'm excited about him.  If he gets any minutes this year, he'll make the season interesting in spite of the fact we'll be losing 50-60 games.

Just want to point out one thing about how ridiculous the argument that Olynyk didn't average those numbers in college so he won't do them in the pros.

MJ's best year in college he averaged 20pts a game.  MJ's worst NBA year, after two retirements, in 03 he averaged 20pts with the Wizards.  Many years in between he was in the 30s.

What is the difference?  The pro game gives players many more shots, the game is longer, the shot clock shorter, whistles are actually tighter, there are more rebounds because there are more shots overall.  College scores are in the 40s, 50s, or 60s.  Pro games are in the 80s, 90s, and 100s.

Wow do you remember Perk in his second year. Heck in his "prime" he was probably the worst starting C in the league..

are you watching the games?? Bc if not, you would know that Olynyk and Forte are different.

Outside of the apparent difference which is one plays sg and the other pf, Olynyk is blessed as being a 7 ft pf when most in the nba are 6'9-6'10 avg. Forte was an undersized SG at 6'3. Olynyk also unlike Forte has multidimensional skills. His stats are stacked from pts to assists, to rebounds, to steals. And it has been three games in a row now. He is an all around guy. Forte , all he did mainly was jack up shots. If he was not going to make them in the nba he be screwed. And thats what happened.

So again, you got a pf who has luxury height to do alot of things (score, see over ppl etc), he can move well, and has an all around game.  He is going to be good . So get excited

1.  Fab is in great shape.
2.  Fab is not in game condition, that will take a month or two to get back.
3.  The Celtics probably asked him not to play any games in the off season because it is easy to develop bad habits for a player learning the basics to play unsupervised.
4.  Fab has improved by leaps and bounds.  He will spend more time in the D league, but he has a real chance to be in the Celtics rotation by All-Star break.
5.  I have no idea what Fab's ceiling is.  His play screams out defensive role player, but it is also littered with some pretty hook shots, great passes and a soft shooting touch.
6.  Let's be patient with Fab.  Everyone knew he was a multi-year project when he was drafted.  Nothing has changed so far.  He's right on track.

My main worry about Fab isn't his basketball IQ but his lack of any explosion at all.  He also doesn't play with any intensity.  I'm not sure those two things are particularly teachable.

Like if I were 7ft and went to dunk a ball and some Russian guy blocked it, I wouldn't be smiling after, I'd be p---ed off.  That just doesn't seem to be Fab and I can't see his personality changing.  He is like Dwight Howard without the athletic ability.

Geez, what is he supposed to do? Walk around with a ridiculous Perk scowl all the time?

Fab's probably not KG in the intensity dept but you don;t make the NBA if you're not driven to play and get better,,

Thats just not part of Fabs game. As a 7footer he's more of a finesse big rather than i power move player. His game has grown so much from last year, I do think he could do still go for a little more muscle little less fLab. But I'm excited with his growth.

Great post. Sums it up in its entirety about Fab.

I'm willing to wait it out with him.
