No we don't need ASIK.. we need a team player, not a player that is asking out of Houston because his team got better.

Is this a joke? The dude is in his prime and signed a big contract with Houston expecting to be the starting center. Now he's going to get 10-15 minutes a game backing up Dwight Howard. It's incredibly reasonable for him to demand a trade. Asik doesn't have any attitude issues at all. I'd love to have him on my team.

Come on. The guy asiked (seewhatididthere?) out, as you said, because he just signed a 4 yr deal to come on and play as a starter, and was one of the best centers in the league doing it. If he wanted to be a backup he would've stayed in Chicago.

Not unless they are just giving him away, in which case of course we should. You should always buy low on players who are legitimate assets, but for whatever reason are made available by their team.

The problem is that I doubt they are ready to just send him off for scraps and the players they would want back in return (Green/Rondo or some combination of Humprhies/Wallace and young guys and picks) isn't worth it for us.

Asik is a great piece for a contender, but really won't fit in well with a rebuilding squad. If he can be had for pennies on the dollar then we should definitely pursue him (even just as a trade chip at the deadline), but outside of that I don't see the fit for us right now.

Other teams are going to be able to come up with better offers for his services than we would.

problem is guys like him, will make us closer to playoff s. ,  but won't help with getting the better lotto picks.

just play the crap team we  received for KG and Pierce ,   the nets junk and hope we land a  couple decent new Rookies

You're not describing Asik.

That's my issue.

1) Getting Asik will involve trading Rondo, for salaries more than anything. I don't think we can combine the trade exception with anything to get Asik back (he makes 8 mil and change), so it would require sending out Rondo somehow. I don't think taking back Asik and anything else the Rockets can offer for Rondo is an acceptable package.

EDIT: The assumption here is that the Rockets want cap relief + rookie contracts/draft picks or a player who can step into the 4 and start, or step into the 1 and improve Lin.

2) Asik is wayyy better than some people here are giving him credit for. He's among the top 5 or so defenders at the 5 right now. He's 4th in the NBA in rebound rate. He has stayed healthy. That's a good, good player. Not an elite building block, but a good player. Good enough that he's worth paying even if you're bad, but if you want to be really, really bad, I don't think he's a guy you want on your team.

Really I think the best place for Asik is to go to New Orleans for Ryan Anderson. Salaries are a near-perfect match.

I'd rather Ainge go after my alltime underrated center, Chris Kaman.  He does nothing spectacularly but everything solidly.  Big guy, blocks some shots, has a good step out jumper, and has post moves.

yes we'll said...... we might just win enough games with Asik ,  enough to screw us out of a really really good draft pic or chance for a major lotto draftee

Tank goodness for DA  ;)

No. He would be a nice piece, a supporting role player, on a contender. We'd have to give up too much for him.

Not necessarily. If you can deal for Asik and rid yourself of Bass and Lee, you set yourself up for immense cap space in 2015.

Also, Asik is a better player than Bass and Lee.

People here are definitely underrating Asik.

I think that could work for both teams. Lee to shoot 3s and space floor for Dwight, and Bass to play outside and hit mid-range shots. I don't know if Houston would. He'd also probably average a double double with Rondo.
