He doesnt have to this year and will be more value to trade next year. Id worry about getting rid of wallace now most and i like humphries game. At least he has legit pf size and rebounding ability than bass. Its not bad to have a guy like that on the team.

This will be Humphries last season on this contract.

Huh? If Danny doesn't move Humphries this year he can't, contract is expiring.

I suppose a sign and trade can always happen, but as the return from Reddick for the Bucks was I think we'd get nothing of note for helping that work.

he expires this year.  would let him just expire and keep the salary cap savings.  gives more flexibility next year and the year after

I'd be happy with a trade exception and two seconds as a return for Humphries.

There's absolutely no incentive for Ainge to try and trade Hump. Unless we're talking about acquiring a top notch player, we're better off having Hump play out the year and shed his contract once it expires next offseason.
Well, we could dump him for an expiring contract (just a body) and some picks.  That way, we are worse this year, still drop the salary, AND get a pick or two.

Good point. That's another exception in trading Hump. Problem is, I can't think of many teams who would be willing to do that. Golden State maybe?

Hmmm. Charlotte was rumored last season to be interested in Humphries (Ben Gordon rumor).

But it looks as though they might have a decent chunk of cap space this offseason.

Assuming they don't want to tie up long-term money by signing a FA, I wonder if Charlotte might consider taking on Humphries salary outright.

Could generate a $10 million TE for the Celtics.

Do trade exceptions count towards the cap? If not, that would be a superb situation for the C's. They could use it should a FA of that price range somehow become available for an affordable price. More likely, they let it go to waste, but save a ton of money by avoiding the luxury tax as well as Hump's salary.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I really don't want to him trade right now because he offers a lot.

a.) He can play, despite the Kim Kardashian hate, the guy can make buckets underneath and rebound the heck of the basketball.

b.) His contract expires next year.

He's the perfect package to include our draft pick/s with if we're trying to get something of great value.

I hope Danny waits, let Humphries play for half a season, raise his trade value before he trades him.

Only teams that are above the cap get TEs; otherwise, they get cap space. But I think that TE would remain viable for a full calendar year, even if during that time the Celtics were to drop below the cap (although if they dropped an amount equal to the TE, I think it might evaporate). [I seem to remember Toronto having both a TE and cap space at one point in the not so distant past.]

Without having a firm sense of the payroll situation after the Nets trade, I am not sure if subtracting Hump's salary would drop them below the cap. I don't believe it would.

Even though they can't be combined, two large TEs would be considerable tools for Ainge to have at his disposal.

Thanks for the info, Lucky17. I wasn't intending on going under the cap, since that'd take a lot of salary shedding to do. As long as we can avoid the luxury tax, we're golden.

Humphries is in a contract year. Players, his age, usually have career years trying to get their maximum worth. He may be very valuable around the trade deadline.

This is a great Point, I was going to post that I thought he should be traded ASAP. However maybe the Cs are better off letting him gain value then shopping him at the deadline to a team in contention.

Trade dead line.

It's funny as soon as we get a good rebounder (1 year out) no one wants him. If we got a detroit package of Charlie V and maggette I would've called for Danny's head.

You know you want to root for Humphries because in the end we'll be banking on his trade value.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Trade exceptions count against the salary cap and have to be renounced to use cap space.  If you have a TE that is bigger than the cap space you would have by renouncing it, you might prefer to use the TE so you can get a player with a higher salary.

Maybe if we're very very lucky a contending team might send us something at the deadline if they see Humphries as a final piece. Like maybe Perry Jones and a pick. Or Tyler hansbrough and a pick...not a great example but you see what I mean.
