I still prefer the thought of Ben Gordon on the roster instead of Humphries.

Similar big expiring contract, but better fit for the roster. Would prefer to give PF minutes to Sullinger and Olynyk than Hump. Also worried about chemistry.

Gordon's contract is a year longer, which is a good thing for both. They give up a pick or something and accelerate their rebuild, we get a pick and get vet presence.

Gordon is an expiring contract. I don't understand a Gordon/Hump swap unless we're getting additional draft picks.

Was reading Simmon's worst contracts article. Forgot that it was done before the season's over.

I don't see why Charlotte would give up a 1st in a Humphries-Gordon swap. A second, maybe.

There's absolutely no incentive for Ainge to try and trade Hump. Unless we're talking about acquiring a top notch player, we're better off having Hump play out the year and shed his contract once it expires next offseason.

this is what i'm afraid of...then "The Trade" becomes all about the picks...and...if we don't get a Top 5 pick in 2014...it becomes the great "What if" in 2016 and 2018...i know most people are still in favor of "The Trade"...but...this is going to take multiple parlays by Danny...this is where the risk increases...no one has a crystal ball...but...time will tell...the collecting assets strategy is not a sure-fire way to rebuild...i see 3 choices...tank for 2014...which i detest...make a big splash with a FA before the season...which Danny says he will not do...or...do nothing...which leaves us in the middle-of-the-road mediocrity with probably 25 to 35 wins with or without Rondo...i don't like any of these choices...

There is no way Humpheries expiring contract is being traded , unless we are getting Kevin Love or Aldridge type. If you can combine Humpheries with picks for a player on that level, then by all means do it.

But....

Danny is not trading him just because we have a log jam at pf. Any team that wants him is going to be because of his expiring contract, meaning the c's have to take long term salary back . No way Danny is doing that as we are trying to rebuild .

Bass is much more likely to be traded IMO.

Trading an expiring contract for a longer contract, picking up draft considerations in the process, is exactly what a rebuilding team should do.

Bass has value to the Celtics if it looks like the team will do a super-quick rebuild and the youth movement makes it seem like the team can be a contender in 2014-2015.  He also could be an expiring contract in the summer of 2014.

I thought they had an extra year of Gordon. They didn't.

Maybe if they'd thrown in more of their garbage.

Point is with Wallace we're already in deep cap trouble. Cap purgatory. Might as well grab some picks and get into cap hell.

There is no way Danny is taking close to 10 mil in salary for an extra year or 2 just to get a crappy pick . No one is going to be giving up good picks for Humpheries .

We already have 7 or 8 first round draft picks over the next 4 years anyways .

A parlay bet means you have to hit all the component bets to win.  What "The Trade" did was give the Celtics multiple opportunities to get lucky when only one is enough to make the deal a win.

There is no sure-fire way to rebuild or to reload.

Absolutely not. It makes no sense whatsoever for a team like ours to remain in the luxury tax. Repeater taxes are not fun, and it's absolutely not worth it when we're not even competing.

Boozer 99% doesn't work but I can't think of a better example.

Championship team, late first, could use the cap space to add a difference maker. Plus Humphries could be helpful to them.

For a late first, again, considering how deep we are with Wallace, it's worth it.

let me clarify what i meant by the term parlay...successive moves built upon multiple previous moves...what i have strongly objected to from the beginning is that i don't think people truly understand "The Trade"...you said it perfectly...it gives us multiple opportunities to get lucky...some might call that an educated risk...i call it gambling...

no matter what danny says, there has to be another move in the pipeline...our roster makes no sense.

we have 3 powerforwards who could start...sully,bass,humphries...paying 2 starting SF's 10million$ each and have about 6 shooting guards

Yup....here I come with the big Elephant in the room question...

WHO IS OUR COACH and what system is he going to install most likely not the help defense unless we accept it's learning curve and if not then what? Personnel ...it can shine or not depending if the scheme fits them. Does our coach fit them to the scheme or build one that highlights what we got ???

I hope we change our scheme as it is not avg IQ friendly and takes time to gel and if anyone is not on spot it all falls down.

Again...who's our coach :'(

Precisely.  Great point.

I remember danny saying, after trading 'Toine, that he knew he needed "more pieces" to make anything happen.  So he traded 'Toine for "pieces."

We have all kinds of pieces, and we got them in one deal:

Unprotected 1sts.

Right to swap picks in 2017.

Big expiring contract of useful veteran role player in Humphries.

Crash, a veteran F defender and great body to throw at Lebron/Carmelo types.  He's a useful, but expensive, player.  We should probably play him next year behind Green.

Young scorer in Brooks, veteran wing in Bogans, both useful trade pieces or on the floor.

Not such a bad haul after all for the old guys.  Combined with our own picks, the Clips pick, Bradley and Sully, he might have the pieces to pull off the blockbuster right now.

An attitude problem and ANOTHER SG in Gordon?  Thanks but no thanks. Olynyk will play some center with our current roster make up.
