Wow, the Toronto GM did a great job getting the first rounder and ability to clear some space.

Is Toronto getting ready to join the tanking expedition?

For the Knicks, if you get pre-2012 Bargani, it could get them to the conference finals next year.

Good deal for both teams.  I'm surprised that Toronto got a first rounder for Bargs.  At the same time, New York was limited in its ability to get an impact player, and Bargnani fits their offense perfectly.

Missed the first round pick. Makes a lot more sense for Toronto now.

Also, people are underestimating Bargnani. Yes, the Raptors are desperate to get rid of him, but that's because Bargnani doesn't fit into their offense. Plenty of other teams would love to have him. As long as Bargnani doesn't have to be the primary offensive option, he could be a dangerous addition. There's absolutely no way there isn't a market for a legitimate 7-footer who is a threat from the perimeter.

I agree that Bargnani could have value in the right situation if he can get his act together. I just don't think that NY is one of those situations.

G - Felton, Prigioni
G - Shumpert
F - C.Anthony, Copeland
F - Bargnani, Novak
C - T.Chandler, A.Stoudemire

I think they should bring Kenyon Martin back. He would be a useful versatile defensive big man to play alongside Bargnani while Tyson Chandler rests.

Guard play is too weak. They need a better PG than Ray Felton in there.

They are going to be reliant on Carmelo's post play and isolation play. Very little shot-creation there outside of Melo. Especially if they dump Amare somehow.

Very difficult to play Amare + Bargnani alongside one another due to their combined defensive and rebounding flaws. Minimizes Amare's value.

Yeah, I see the fit for both teams.

Bargs is essentially a rich man's Novak. Can do a lot more for the Knicks.

so we should be in great shape if we even decide to ship out Olynyk then?

I disagree, and think NY is one of the BEST situations for him. Barg's biggest weaknesses are defense and rebounding, and Chandler helps mask both of them.

Bargnani has put up 20ppg+ campaigns before. Olynyk hasn't even played a single NBA game.

Chandler has already got his work cut out covering for the rest of that team. Who can defend on their roster other than him and Shumpert? Bargnani is liable to wilt under the NYC spotlight, stood out on the perimeter watching Melo hero ball.

At this stage of his career (coming off of injuries and a real drop-off in form) I think he could be a fit as a 6th man (at most) on a good defensive team like the Pacers or Bulls, who can hide him on the defensive end.

I could be wrong but, as it's the Knicks, I hope I'm not.  ;D

And you know, I'm not going to disagree with you. It's a very realistic scenario given that it's Bargnani we're talking about. We'll see.

One thing is for sure though. Whether Barg has a career renaissance or not, the Knicks continue to be firmly locked in as a perennial second round exit. I think we can all be quite happy about that!  ;D

Novak is gone and now the gapping defensive hole at PF gets bigger. This trade makes me think a $20 mil back up center in Amare is not gonna happen.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Amen to that!

Particularly as:

Andrea Bargnani could be earning $12 million as a back-up...and he'd still be the second highest paid Knicks back-up behind Amar'e.

Thank God we had that lockout to make sure every team gets a fair shot!  Now teams in LA and NY can't just spend outrageous amounts of money to improve their teams while even best-case-scenario small market teams like the Thunder get to keep the stars they drafted well to attain like Harden... wait what?

Really seems like the Knicks are trying to take back the back page of the local papers from the Nets. Does Bargs really give New York anything more than Novak did considering his poor defense and rebounding? Seems like they just wanted to make a splash with a name because they are losing the battle of the NY media.
