Yeah, I really don't buy Ainge's interest in trading Rondo at this point... particularly if it doesn't net him a special player. Anything less would be pointless.

That said, if Ainge is very concerned with the ACL injury, then all bets are off.

how is rondo too good for tanking? he has an ACL surgery, and he wont be back 100%, an he wont be back probably until around the all star break if we're lucky, danny can shut him down for the year and pull a derrick rose.

or something like... Trade Rondo and Wallace to the Pistons for Charlie V (expiring 8 mil), Brandon Knight and Andre Drummond.  Calderon is a free agent and they have a ton of cap room to absorb contracts.  Then maybe they can sign Josh Smtih and roll with Rondo, Smith and Monroe.

Can't see them moving Monroe.

Amen. I'm not trusting what Danny Ainge says at all right now. He can say whatever he wants, but if an offer is good enough that contradicts what he says, he's going to go against his word and make that move. Boston is absolute nuketown right now and everything is on the table.

All-Star break, what makes you think that? Tony Allen, for example, in 2007 he injured it January, that's a month earlier than Rondo did, and he was ready to go to start the next season.

Doesn't Detroit love Drummond? A lot? For good reason, too. I could see Monroe in here, as his ceiling isn't as high, but Drummond is quite a stretch.

As usual, many seem to be overvaluing rondo.  He likely would not get that much in return because most gms don't think he's that good and he is very high maintenance.

I understand that DA just needs to find one taker but I think the market for rondo is limited.

The key word is "most". There are some GMs in the league that are in love with him. Danny needs to take advantage of them.

Yeah, this is now where I think the "rebuilding" gets to be a little more interesting and tough to gauge.

Is Danny looking to rebuild around Rondo by maybe adding a JSmoove OR is he looking to totally tank to land a top 10 pick in the 2014 draft?

It's a tough decision. One hand, though I've never been a fan of Rondo's style of play, I do think he's capable of building a team around. That means, the Celts more or less reload and could even be a playoff team, next season!

On the other hand, can you win a title with Rondo and is Danny better off just letting the Celts get REALLY bad in order to get REALLY good, which won't be til about 2016/2017/2018.

I will say this about building around Green, Sully and Bradley. I don't think these guys are anymore of a franchise player than Rondo is.

All three of them are role players as I am just not that high on Green, Sully and Bradley like others are.

As enticing as drafting Wiggins in 2014 might be, if I were Danny, I would now consider building around Rondo instead of trying to get so bad to be in next year's lottery.

Aka....keep Rondo, and now go after Josh Smith.

If anything, a team of Rondo, Bradley/Brooks, Green/Wallace, Smoove/Sullinger and insert center (Olynyk and maybe a FA pick up like Dalembert or Hickson) might even be a playoff team next year.

They'd certainly be more exciting to watch.

Ainge has told people he plans to build around Jeff Green, Avery Bradley and Jared Sullinger. It sure seems like they'll be "rebuilding" next season to set themselves up for a good draft pick in the supposedly great 2014 draft. They've been dangling Rondo for years now. He'll have to prove he's healthy, but I expect teams to be looking to get him. Ainge is setting a standard here that he doesn't require proven talent back in big deals.

  Regardless of whether Ainge wants to trade Rondo or not, if he's telling people that he plans to build around Green, Sully and Bradley Wyc would be interviewing his replacement as we speak. What's the absolute upside for that core? a top 20 record in the league?
