I think Divac is his absolute ceiling. Tp for being one of few people who really like Olynyk, a lot of people on various boards have killed me for liking him.
Yes I didn't mean to say otherwise. Divac is a great, great player and that'd be a ceiling comparison. Those aspects of his game though remind me of watching Divac, who kind of glided around the floor and always made smart passes.
There are guys like him that don't translate, so I get the worry. But people said similar things about Sullinger too. At some point you have to say this guy was productive in college, he has a great skill set for a 7 footer and he can move so hopefully he can learn to defend.
The concern, of course, is that he was productive for only one year of college, despite being there for a while, and that his level of competition was sub-par. Not terrible, because Gonzaga plays a good non-conference schedule, but the WCC isn't the best to begin with, and had a down year compared to the last few years. Also, the Zags haven't had a great track record recently of producing players who did well at the NBA level, despite their college success. Austin Daye is probably the best they've done, and really I'm still just grading him largely on potential. Otherwise you could pick Turiaf.
Regardless, there are valid concerns about whether he can play at an NBA level just from watching his game. Combined with the fact that he's a one-year wonder and plays in a school/conference that hasn't produced much high-level NBA talent in the past decade, makes him a very risky pick. And I get that risk is inherent, but at #16, I'm not convinced there won't be equally risky players available with higher ceilings.
(Also, I'm totally not a Zags hater, and am still ticked that we picked Kris Joseph instead of Robert Sacre at the end of the second round last year. But Zags in the NBA just haven't produced much, and largely not due to random event like injury.)
