Best players most likely availible in that range...

Ricardo Ledo- Lethal scorer with severe personality red flags. Bounced around so many high schools that the NCAA mad him academically ineligible to play despite being accepted to Providence. Tight Handle, deep range can spell backup 1 duties for stretches, needs to keep his head on strait.

Glen Rice Jr- Son of a former standout, Rice Jr is a terrific shooter with legitimate NBA Size to go along with his pedigree. Spent the last Year in the D Leauge after running into character issues.

Myck Kabongo- explosive Canadian athlete who plays a pass first style game and was responsible for a heroic 22 point comeback earlier this year. Stock has dropped due accepting impermissible benefits as well as failing to stand out enough at Texas.(Think Avery Bradley)

Livio Jean-Charles- "power 3" out of France who tore Nike Hoops Summit this year along with Dennis Schroeder. Definitely a garbage man for now Jean Charles is a quick Jumper who can rebound at a high level from the 3 position.

Mike Muscala-Possibly the most slowdown, coordinated big in this Draft, Muscala possesses a deep array of post and counter post moves allowing to score at will in college. Remains to be seen if he can score a to the NBA level.

As you can see quite a few high risk high reward picks that could really pan into rotational players. I want Ledo in Green.

With this trade exception, could we use it at anytime?

Edit: Meaning do we have to wait a certain timeframe before we could use it?
Unless the CBA changed it, a trade exception is good for a year from the date of the trade. IIRC, you can't combine TE's to make it bigger, but you can split it, using part of it in one trade and part of it in another.

I'd be happy with both Ledo and Rice.  Kabongo could be a decent pickup, if he's still available.

That article on Ledo made him sound really good.  He would be exactly what we need a shooting guard with decent size, and someone who can really score.  If we are sticking with Rondo, it might be a great fit.

Tony Mitchell may fall into the top of the 2nd round as well.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

So to clarify for people, if this is Pierce for picks straight up, the deal can't be completed until after June 30th, since the Cavs don't have that kind of cap space available this season (no one does, due to minimum payroll requirements).  Such a trade exception would be $15,333,334.  The Cavs would obviously keep pierce, since this trade would occur after the deadline to release him and owe only $5 mil.

If the Celtics were to use the exception in a sign-and-trade, they could only pay the incoming player $15,333,334 or less, which is about $1 mil less than max.  If someone like Josh Smith is adamant about getting a max contract, this will not be enough.

This deal makes some sense to me, depending how cranky Irving is about not losing.  They have a gaping hole at the three, and if they don't end up with Otto porter at the draft, pierce would be a great fill.

Additionally, to sign-and-trade for the full value of their trade exception, the Celtics would need to be under the apron after the sign-and-trade.  Currently they are projected to be over, so they'd need to clear some additional salary room.  Logically, KG leaving is one way, and accordingly, I don't see this trade occurring unless KG is gone.

What? This would be even worse than the Clippers deal.

Why would the Celts just give Pierce away for two crap 2nd round draft picks?

Couldn't we at least get Varajeo out of the deal?

What's this fascination that Ainge has with draft picks?

The TPE instantly generates, in essence, 16 million dollars in spendable cap room. Pretty valuable asset to have if you can get it.

That's actually not bad.  We get a trade exception and two picks that are pretty close to being 1st round picks.
In this draft I wouldn't be all that excited, but the TE would open up the possibility of bringing in one of the major FAs this offseason.

I like this trade and have to disagree with you about this draft.

Chad Ford just today posted his 2013 draft tiers. This is where he polls GMs from around the league to try to build a consensice of what players are at what level. He had no tier 1 or 2 players (sure or likely allstars), 6 tier 3 players, 6 tier 4 players and 25 tier 5 players.

Tier 5 players are typically drafted between 20-30 in most drafts.

2012 Tier 5: Harkless, Melo, Miller, Moultrie, Nicholson, Teague, White, Wroten

2011 Tier 5: Davis Bertans ,Marshon Brooks,Kenneth Faried,Jordan Hamilton,Tobias Harris,Tyler Honeycutt,Reggie Jackson, Nikola Mirotic, Darius Morris,Markieff Morris,Donatas Motiejunas,Josh Selby,Nikola Vucevic

With 12 players tier 1-4 and 25 in tier 5 that means that this trade would get the celtics 2 tier 5 players on 2nd round contracts. These picks would be equivalent to getting two picks in mid 20s in most drafts.

This is the list of tier 5 player, I would be happy to see the Cs draft almost any three of these players. #16,#31,#33

If Doc and KG arent going anywhere, we should keep Pierce and go ahead with what we have.
I like Pierce, but I think the C's are going to have to move him this summer, one way or another, both for the future and because of the luxury tax implications of his salary on the books. I think the choices are

a. don't pick up option: save $10 million on cap, pay $5 million in salary, get no assets; Paul is a UFA and probably doesn't get the full $15 million when it's all said and done.

b. amnesty him: save $15 million on cap, pay up to $15 million (depending on what some other team pays him), but stretched out and with no luxury tax implications; Paul is a UFA once he clears waivers and will get the full $15 million or more.

c. trade him, taking back less money: variable savings both on cap and in reality, but up to $15 million + assets; Paul ends up on a team that might/might not waive him and on a team he might not really want to play for, but he does get his money.

Option c is best for the Celtics, but probably crappiest for Pierce.

Plus Danny just signed another SF to an 8 million dollar per year deal.

The 16mil trade exception more valuable than Varajeo...

For those that don't get it... Simmons talked about it on his podcast last week.  THeoretically, the Cavs could absorb Paul's salary... then we'd get a trade exception (would it be 15mil?) that we could then use to pursue free agents like Josh Smith and AL Jefferson.  Reason is, if Smith was dead-set on bailing on Atlanta, they'd rather have a trade exception from Boston than lose him for nothing.  Trade exceptions are big ... instant cap savings for teams looking to free cap space.  They can be used in a variety of ways.

Didn't the Lakers traded all of their draft picks and a trade exception for Steve Nash a year ago?

That would be a great deal for the C's.  The trade exception would be huge.
