Do we want to do this though?? I guess if Doc doesnt want to be here but what are we getting a measly pick for Doc? meh
A "measly pick" or two and/or some cash is all you'd ever have gotten for Doc. You can't get a player for him, as that would also be against the rules and no coach is worth more than a pick or two.

And yes, if Doc wants to go coach LAC then I'd let him do it for a pick or two. Unprotected picks start at two firsts and settle for one first and one second.

I let Doc go for one first-round pick.

And if they claim they don't want to give compensation for Doc, then I guess they were ready to give two picks and DAJ for KG, which I'm fine with also.

But I don't believe them for a minute.  Would hate to see Doc force Danny to take him back at this point.  They're counting on the C's being happy just to be rid of his contract now.

I would be ecstatic if they traded Doc for 2 picks (that is supposedly what they submitted to the league).  Then, either held on to KG and Pierce, or tried to get more for them.

I like Doc, but at this point, its time for him to go.  And to get 2 picks for him would really help the rebuilding/reloading process.

I agree.  I like Doc too, but the Clippers could sign Lionel Hollins or George Karl (both equal to Doc in my opinion) and keep their picks.  Getting two picks for a coach is an outrageous steal, even if the picks are likely to be late firsts.
I dont care we have the leverage now 2 picks or nothing. Doc can hang it up a year the Clippers can have another first or 2nd round exit for all I care and come crawling back for Doc next year if they like.

Just some input on the Doc for a pick deal (which it seems clips won't even do)

 ‏@GwashNBAGlobe 2m

Don't see Danny Ainge giving up Doc for a late first-rounder in a shaky draft, doesn't help #celtics rebuild that much, if at all

@GwashNBAGlobe 4m

#celtics want 1) salary cap relief, 2) younger players, 3) draft picks. Ainge does not like this draft.

Clippers want to set aside Garnett deal for now, but are showing no willingess to offer Celtics a draft pick for Doc Rivers, sources tell Y!

---- AKA Clippers continue to give no ground whatsoever.  Out of principle, if I'm Danny, I just walk away from them.

The Clippers are just being absurd. Sure, we'll do what you want and get nothing in return. Not.

If they're really not willing to give up a pick for Doc then he's going to be broadcasting.
Or sitting on the C's bench, either way they aren't getting him for nothing...or IMO, they shouldn't. Especially, not after all this.

Doc can quit and not coach anywhere for the next three years, bring back some compensation in the form of picks for some team he signs with, or coach the Celtics. As I see it, those should be the options Danny holds firm to. If Danny/Wyc are committed to rebuilding, then rebuild, and Doc can leave or fall into line.

Exactly! You are dealing with absolute morons, Danny. My god! They are unwilling to give up a pick for Doc's rights when 5 hours ago they were just fine with giving up 2 pics and Jordan for KG/Doc.

I wonder if this is now play acting for Stern and the league at this point.

Or if the Clippers are just trying to leverage this mess to give up less. Probably the later.

You think Hollins is overrated?

Also, what're the odds that you think DA is asking for their 2014 draft pick straight up for Doc?

Why?  That's a great deal for a coach who doesn't want to be here.

EDIT - Whoops totally misread it.  Thought they were offering a pick.

If my instinct is right that most of the leaks around this thing came from the Clippers trying to poison the well for Doc in Boston, it's probably the latter.

At this point I don't care if the deal goes through or not, I just hope this backfires horribly on the Clippers one way or another.  They seem to have acted in horrible faith just to knock the price down a notch or two.  I guess that means I hope KG doesn't go there since I'd hate to see it happen to him.

Do you guys think Danny wouldnt even budge for just 1 pick because it'd mean losing KG for nothing....since he only wants to be where Doc is and would probably retire?

No, because Danny has both Doc and KG under contract this year.

At this point, there is no reason to accept anything less than 2 first round picks as compensation for Doc.

Clips have a ten day window to either get Doc or see their team ruined; Celts can always rebuild next offseason when these contracts expire.

very easy for Ainge to walk away from this deal.
