These on again off again talks are incredibly frustrating.
I'm guessing it wouldn't be the right thing to agree or do anything tonight, since I read Sterling is still out having dinner w/ Brian Shaw right now. I bet its done tomorrow morning.

Yeah but Danny Ainge isn't David Kahn.

Exactly. It's not even apples to oranges. More like apples to cow pies.

I'm sorry to see that cash was a priority in the C's negotiations--especially given how much they were about to save by shipping out Doc.  Far better if it were only actual team assets they were after.

Trying to squeeze Don Sterling for cash doesn't sound like a smart thing.

Presuming, of course, that this story is accurate.
Do you mean Jordan's trade kicker? If you do, then the trading team is supposed to pick that up, not the team getting him.

I think Danny's 3 offers, if they have been accurately presented, were all about equal to each other. Jordan had to be in there to match KG's salary, beyond that, Danny wanted prospects (Bledsoe), picks, and cap relief. His offers reflected that:

1. Jordan, Bledsoe, 1 pick
2. Jordan, 2 picks
3. Jordan, Butler, cap relief (Terry & Lee)

I also don't think Danny backed down and that's why the Clippers kept leaking stories and "walked away." They couldn't get him to knuckle under to them. I know the Clippers said they wanted this settled "in a couple of days", but I suspect it will hang on a back burner until they sign a coach, CP3 signs somewhere, or Danny finds a better deal somewhere else.

Right.  But again, whether or not the story is correct, it states that the C's would be looking for the Clips to pay them in cash for the amount of Jordan's trade kicker.

For those that so want this team turned into the Minnesota Timberwolves after KG left them, let's remember something. Since trading KG, Minnesota has been a laughing stock of a franchise. They have had the worst record one year, the second worst record another, and a bunch of years of equally awful, "bottom 7 in the league" performances.

They never got the first pick in the draft. All these years later...Minnesota still sucks.

And with Danny Ainge and Rondo and Green and Sully, this team should never sniff the bottom 7 in the league. That means possibly worst drafting positions than Minnesota got for ABSOLUTELY SUCKING!!!

That's what Celtic fans are supposed to put their hopes on? Get bad enough to have almost zero chance of getting a pick higher than 8 or 9?

I'ld rather go with the get cap space and sign free agents/use the space to trade for a great player/use it to sign and trade a player/use it to grab an amnestied player/or any other the other real creative things you can do to add assets with cap space. I trust any GM in this league to build winners that way than explicitly through sucking bad enough to possibly never land a great pick and being mediocre for 2 decades again.

The Celtics have tried the whole tanking thing. Its failed miserably twice!!!

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! Fool me three times, well, I'm just a sucker for punishment!!!
Minnesota consistently overlooked good players with early picks, the Celtics aren't that inept that they would mess up a bunch of top 5 picks. Our management was bad in the past when we tanked, now I trust in Danny's ability to draft.

I think we could tank next year, miss the playoffs, add one of the five franchise players in next year's draft to an improved Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sully and Jordan and be a very good team for an extended period.

We need to replenish our talent pool and the best way for Boston to do that is through a high pick in the draft.

While this is true the whole going nuclear option by trading Rondo and Green shouldn't be visited at all. Danny isn't without faults so I'm not sure he would 100% hit on the pick. Whatever...tonight is XMAS for the blow it up crowd. You've gotten your wish since the team traded for KG and gasp got older
I love Rondo and Green I don't want them going anywhere.

That must be an awkward dinner.  I wonder if Sterling expects Shaw to pick up the check.

They're probably having Italian, Shaw's personal favorite.

im betting it ends up being a salary going to the clips and  not the second 1st rounder they seem to hold so dear.  it seems to make sense.

Without a blowup in 06-07, we would not have got KG or Ray and no title.  It sucks, but you don't a ride a horse into the ground, or you will kill it, you get a new one and keep riding.
